Your girl is gorgeous!!! She has her ears set back kinda like Dallas does. You keep all 4 dogs at the same place? Do they ever fight?

Mike, this is what Dallas looks like now. She's doing great! Up to 35lbs.

Thanks, she is a dream dog. You can massage the ears to help them not fold back as she grows. I never bothered.
The Rott/chows can't be together if I am not home, they will fight. The Boerboels can hang out together or with either of the other 2 except Odi is too rough on playing so I keep him away from the old dogs when I am not home.

Dallas looks good and healthy, she has a good walk and she is very relaxed and confident, the Boerboels shines in her.

Also giving Sure Grow 100 while she is teething in about 2 more months will help to keep the ears from falling back.

Yep you can really see it in her.

I love the little wiggle in her walk. Despite being a large puppy and black, which to me is a masculine colour/shade, she comes off to me as appearing very feminine.

Thanks all. Here is a vid of Dallas and her big brother Duke. She saw an opportunity and made a run for it!!!!

Ahh a CAO, love them. They would need to be included in my perfect pack along with the BOZ Kangals, and Boerboels. Great looking dog one of the ancient Molossers still in original form and function.

It is up to you. If you see her ears starting to fold back you can try this. I did not tape Jade's ears and she has mostly laid back flaps but when alert they will form up correct. I gave Odi that supplement during his teething and so far his ears are staying forward like they should. I have massaged his ears in the same fold as taping does once or twice. I mentioned the taping on a Boerboel page and everyone gave me hell for not letting her develop in her own way, but I did see one of the same ladies taped her dogs ears and they looked wonderful.

But isn't the issue here that the ears itself are lifted backwards like that of a Bulldog rather than a crease forming in floppy ears causing it to fold backwards when there is lots of movement?

Not sure what you mean exactly but Jade will fold her ears back near flat to her head. Odi can't or does not do it.

Odi alert ears

Jade Alert Ears. See the position difference?

Jade relaxed ears.

And then you get this at times.

Volka's ears are always folded , they get unfold when he is alert sometimes..... it does not bother me...
MIke: is there any pros and cons i mean a medical reason why they should not fold?

Actually I think the reverse is better but there are pros and cons either way.

Ears that fold back
Pros:
Are dryer and less likely to get yeasty and require less cleaning.
Seem to pick up distant sounds better (like "come here dammit!!")
That's all I got for pros.

Cons:
Get debris in them that may lead to infections
Get sunburned
Don't look as nice
Take a DQ point in appraisal
Get water in them easy from weather
Wind causes irritation (head shaking and ear flapping)

Ear Flaps with proper Triangle Form

Pros:
Protects ears from dust dirt and debris
Are directional so you know what direction the dog is hearing things from
Conforms to standard
Less irritation from wind
Looks real good.

Cons:
Ears get humid and create yeasty environment
Need mote attention in cleaning
That's it.
