First off, you need to teach him his name.
So out him on a leash and don't pull in it.
Have treats
Say his name and put the treat where he can see & smell it
When he comes to get it say "good Spartacus"
Will take about a week

Also remember dogs are a simple minded animal so you don't have a convo command so it wouldn't be Spartacus come over here it would be "Spartacus Come"
So you get attention with name
You get results by the command
But you must teach the command

We've had our girl for about a week, she hadn't grasped her name with other commands I.e sit, leave it, drop it. But my breeder recommend getting her to learn the Watch command. Basically, say her name and then a watch command (we use look) and as soon as her eyes meet yours give her a treat, no matter if she is sitting or standing or lying down. And after some of these exercises it seems she's more responsive to her name. Might want to try it out, plus it's great to get her attention back to you

Well... Spartacus is a whole LOT of name to live up to. :)
Does he have any nick-names?

We resued a 1 yr-old who had learned to perfectly ignore his name (Elliot). We gave him a new one, much shorter (Chase) and attached all sorts of love and goodness to it. Focus/Watch exercizes worked wonders with him - as did having really, really tasty treats. :)

We always attached only goodness to "Denna", so she learned pretty quickly that it was a good thing...

The way you say the name can have a lot to do with it, too. We could call our last dog pretty much anything with a happy voice (and often did), and he's come running.

I've read that making a dog's name too long will confuse them. Keep it less than 3 syllables. So maybe a nickname would make it easier.
Just what I've read.

My thought was that the name may be a bit long also.

My pup is Leonidas, but only comes to Leo or LEO...nidas.

The name is not to long and let me explain why...
When we train dog for certain sports we have to say "examples"
Xadeoutguard .. So in fact it is Xade (name) out (1st command) guard (2nd command)
When most of you train you say ...
Name and command usually in one breath.

The dog hears the 1st 4 letters of the name

My male Presa puppy name is
Anabis 3 syllables so is Spartacus

Food for thought
