So far sounds like you are right on track. About swimming. Maybe find a creek or lake she can enjoy or just buy a kiddie pool.

Thanks Mike, I think I am going to start with a kiddie pool this weekend. After she has her third set of shots I will probably take her to 1000 acre park just outside Portland. They have an area where dogs can go off leash into a really mellow part of the river.

3rd set of shots? How old is the pup now? They should only have 2 sets of shots before one year of age.

9-10 Weeks Old: Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV Puppy DPV (NeoPar and NeoVav DA2 Best choice)

14-16 Weeks: Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV Puppy DPV (NeoPar and NeoVav DA2 Best choice)

After 20 weeks or so first rabies then 1 year later Killed rabies booster 3 year shot.

I get my info from Dr. Jean Doodd.

But I use Neotech vaccines which are high titer and bypass the maternal antibodies.

Pup continues to do well. She is growing up quickly! At her last bet apt, she was 14 weeks old and 40lb (literally doubled in size in 6 weeks). Her training is going well and she continues to be very engaged. She has pretty high prey drive which helps with training but can be a challenge with the puppy biting at times.

I took her out to a park on the Sandy River last weekend (slow moving shallow delta, pretty ideal place for a puppy) and she took to the water immediately. She was running around, splashing and swimming. Toward the end she got a little over whelmed and shit down a bit. I'm not sure if something spooked her but she definitely needed some space. She got over it quickly and bounced right back so we were able to end on a positive note.

@trevordj

I have really enjoyed following your thread about your "little" girl. She sure has grown up into a lovely looking dog, from that tiny puppy, right up to a respectable young lady.

My baby Charlie is growing so fast, that it's hard to keep up with him. I'm snapping pictures everyday, just to keep track of his growth. He turns exactly 3 months tomorrow, the 12th of Nov.

It seems, that they grow up so quickly, almost too quickly. You just want to say, hold on there, I want to enjoy the 'little' puppy a little while longer, lol.

Best wishes to youcand your beautiful girl.

Just took her to the vet to get a weight and pick up her heart worm and flea/tick meds. She weighs a solid 97lb already! She isn't even 7 months old yet. She is a BIG girl but I can still see/feel her ribs and she remains very athletic and agile for such a big dog.

She gets so excited at the vet that getting her to hold still in a sit/stay was a challenge, this was the closest I could get :).

Thanks for checking in guys! Sorry I failed to update this for long. Time flies!

Here is a recent picture of my girl. She is 9 months old now and weighs a hefty 125lb! She is not overweight, but I have cut back on her food a bit. I want to keep her on the lean side so she remains agile for her sport.

We remain training hard in IPO. It is a LOT of work but I really enjoy it. We train three times daily and spend sun up to sun down training with our club on Saturdays. She is very slow to develop any desire to bite, so it remains to be determined if we will only do obedience and tracking or if we will do protection as well.

She has developed some skin issues, inflammation between her toes and frequently gets hives. We are scheduled with a dermatologist in early March to see what we can do. I did some diet elimination tests and it didn't seem to help. I am optimistic we will get it figured out, likely it is some sort of environmental allergen. Hopefully I can get her tested and take her through desensitization so she doesn't have uncomfortable allergies her whole life.

I have been neglecting the pictures, I will try to get some better ones and upload them.

Hey it was about time to see your beautiful big girl :) i am very sorry that she has some allergie issues, did you completly rule out the food? Or you are waiting to have checks at the vet? Try everything you can before you do the blood tests, they are mostly expensive and cant always point out the precise problem. How is this affecting her? Send her a big hug from me ,my fiance and tonka :)

She's gorgeous!

It definitely sounds like allergies.
What is she eating?

I would personally try removing all grains from her diet, then try changing the proteins. There are quite a few dogs no days, who do not do well with poultry, so maybe pork or beef may work better for her. If that doesn't do the trick, then possibly rabbit, goat, or Kangaroo (which seems to work well for some dogs with allergies).

Good luck, and keep the pictures coming,

We have mostly ruled out food. My vet told me that since Tonks responded to apoquel this argued this was most likely environmental. I will meet with the dermatologist on 03/07/2017 and see what she has to say. I'm not worried about the cost I have met my insurance deductable for the year so this will pay for 80% of meds and testing needed.

The only way it seems to affect her is that her feet are red/irritated and itchy a lot of the time. She also seems to be itchy in her hindquarters and gluteal area. The hives don't seem to bother her as much.

She has been raw fed since she was 4 months old. She gets no grains or corn (prey diet). I have tried eliminating proteins from her diet (chicken and turkey were the first to go) and it didn't seem to help. I added them back in after about 1 month and nothing seemed to change). She is currently fed mostly beef, pork, chicken, and lamb.

I am hoping I can figure out some sort of environmental cause for her skin issues. I have read good things about desensitization therapy which I think would be better long term than meds or having her be uncomfortable for her entire life. We will see what the dermatologist says here in 2 weeks!
