Hello Everyone,

I am really excited to join this forum, partcipate, learn and share with all you guys. I have always wanted a DDB puppy and but I think I finally have the time and resources needed to commit to something so big.

I have been constantly talking to different breeders and gauging them on how they take care of their dogs, their temperament, size and their facilities. Finally, after talking to 15 to 20 people I think I might have settled for this guy who is not very big in terms of volume. I think that is a good thing because he is not doing it for the money. He only has 1 to 2 litters in a year and he himself has his dogues compete, so is well aquainted with the breed.

Anyways, getting to the point, I am planning on getting the pick male of the litter and have attached a few pics. I know there are a lot of DDB owners out there and I could value from their responses. He is 8 weeks old as of today and weighs at 19lbs.

Please let me know what you think? The breeder also mentioned that he is a show quality puppy.

Looking forward to all the replies.006.jpgView attachment 16997086.jpg087.jpgView attachment 16995053.jpgView attachment 16997

Welcome! That is one cute pup! I'm still pretty new myself so I don't have a comment on weather he's "show quality" or not, but he sure is a cutie! Welcome to the addiction ;)

he is so cute.. very very sweet.. so exciting!
As for show....WELL, it is REALLLLLYYYY hard to tell you what ANY pup will look like as an adult. Even the very best breeders themselves have kept show prospects and let them go later because they didnt turn out how they thought... some ugly pups grow into beautiful adults and some beautiful pups grow up into ugly adults...

In reality... if he is registered... he can be showed...LOL... but that doesnt mean he will win.. your breeder can guess... and they should be knowledgeable to know which pups have potential to do well in the ring... however... they are still only saying it has POTENTIAL to develope into a show winning quality dogue.. if your wanting a GUARANTEE that your getting show winning quality, buy a year old dogue or whatever...

I mean.. heck... even an ugly dogue (if there is such a thing) is showable as long as he has registration for it... But that doesnt mean he will win like i said... lol

so best approche, go for the showing... but do it because YOU want to show... not because you want to win... that way, win or lose.. you had a good time... win is a bonus..

he could grow up to be the next top dogue... or the next underdogue... lol but either way... you will love him just the same...

I am sorry to inform you guys that we decided not to go with this breeder. There was a lot of misunderstanding, the breeder was not willing to answer questions about the Sire's health. Also the temperament of his dogs was very indifferent. They were shy and reserved, even the puppies. All these alarming facts forced me to back out. Cannot mention how hard it is once you have decided on a puppy but I believe it happened for the good.

I have been in contact with another breeder who has had his first litter ever and I am getting the male pick from his litter. He has been more than accommodating to answer all my questions and is one of the serious believers in the protection of the lines. The Sire is a big champion and the mother never competed but from a good bloodline. Most importantly, these dogs have amazing temperament and have had good health thus far.

I have 2 males to pick from and right now I have their pics at 5 weeks. I will be personally going to pick one when they are 8 weeks and making the decision. However I wanted opinions from everyone on the board. I have a few pics for both the boys, go ahead and let me know your opinions/choices?Picture 001a.jpgPicture 005a.jpgPicture 002a.jpgPicture 003a.jpgPicture 004a.jpg

I think they are both just gorgeous pups. I always prefer the chunkier so I'd choose 2. But then again the smaller pups in the litter can end up being the biggest when grown. Either way you will get a looker.

I would love the possibility of showing the dog in the future. It seems to me too, atleast in the picture that Dog#2 seems a little bigger but I will ask the breeder to send me more pics at Week#6 and Week#7 to monitor their growth.

Those first pics you posted, I did not like the pup's conformation. Too long in neck. Head was nice, but did not like the topline.

The other breeder's pups are better. If I was picking a pup for the ring, I would go with pup #2. Good head, nice bone, and wrinkles. Good topline and chest. Ear set is good.
Of course, what may look good now - may not in a year.

Thanks for your opinion guys. I agree with you china belle, boy#1 has changed a lot in a week. And also another important thing to remember is that both of them weigh almost the same, I believe the difference is like 3 to 4 ounces. So growth wise it seems to me that both are doing good.

A very important factor for me is the temperament of the dog. Thats the reason I am have not made up my mind yet. Another way to look at it is that Boy#2 is always so "aware" or conscious in the pics, that could be the reason he photographs well and could also mean he is the dominant one. I very much believe in me being the alpha and making sure they are aware of that. But not going to make any decision till I see them at 8 weeks. But just looking at the pics, I am leaning towards Dog#2 :)

What do you guys think of their weight....how is 13 lbs for 6 week old?
