New Foster Puppy

Meet Diego my most recent foster pup. He is a 6 1/2 month old mastiff/austrailian shepherd mix. He weighs about 80 lbs already!! He's going to be one big handsom boy.

I nicknamed Diego 'Muppet'. His face is so cute and animated and the wild hair.....just too cute.
He doesn't want anything to do with my hubby though. For example, he will open Diego's crate to take him out for a walk and he will NOT come out. If I go and tell him to come out he does right away. He is in no way aggressive towards OH but he just doesn't want anything to do with him. So I suggested he take him for a walk so they can get to know eachother but still NOPE Diego didn't want that either. He kept pulling and pulling in my direction.
I told OH to give him a treat whenever he got close enough, maybe then he will know OH is not a threat but still nothing.
He met all the resident dogs with no incidents. Diego is social and loves to play but if I move he's there. If I take 2 steps to put the volume up on the tv (in the same room mind you) he takes 2 steps with me. I tell him that i'm not going anywhere (not that he can understand...but I like to talk with my dogs).
He definately needs leash training and he jumps up on me ALL the time. I'm thinking he's jumping all over me because he's still insecure about all the changes because he's not play jumping, it feels like he's trying to get as close as possible to me.
I know once he settles in and get the proper training and manners training he's going to be a great dog. He has a lot of potential.

My sister's boxer/whippet mix (try that for a awful cross) didn't take to me when we were flatmates, for quite some time, in the end I found an activity he liked (fetch) and used that to bond with him. An australian sheppard mix will probably have a high play drive, which should help. He's a stunner by the way.

Hi Ivy :)

Firstly keep up the great work fostering :)

Wow, he is a handsome hunk!!

No doubt he will find his forever home soon, he is incredibly striking and so rare to see a long hair brindle, stunning!!
