Hello everyone! My wife and our 4 young kids and I live near Calgary Canada. We are expecting our pup tomorrow! I'm excited to gain knowledge from others who have had mastiff breeds.

Our beagles passed away 2 and 3 years ago and I have been researching breeds for the past 3 years.
I wanted a breed with a bit of a presence as I do a lot of hiking and bush camping in the rocky mountains here. My kids have started showing interest in coming with me and I feel better having a partner aiding me in their protection, both out there and at the house...not to mention providing that loving, devoted companionship of a mastiff.

After my extended research I felt I had it down to the cane corso, bullmastiff or a Mastador. Ironically I ended up finding a litter that is quite unique. I observed the parents for an hour and and a half and loved their alertness as well as their ability to accept my family quickly and head to their beds. They were both so sweet and gentle and they even ended up guarding my kids as they ran around the owners acreage!

Mom - 50% corso, 50% tosa inu
Dad - 50% presa canario, 50% chocolate lab

So our pup will be 25% lab and 75% mastiff (corso, tosa and presa - 25% each)

I'm excited for our new female pup companion and the journey (and hard work) ahead and thankful for any and all information I can lean on in this forum!

Hi there! Its always so exciting to get a new pup! Enjoy! Looking forward to pics. Sounds like the parents have great character. Are you thinking about training your little one? Socializing in the big world is important too.

Mazie is doing great and already a big part of our family. 3 days after being here, in true mastiff fashion, would not come in from the backyard until all my human littles came in first. She would ignore my call to come inside and sit and look back at the kids who were heading in from the trampoline. Potty training is going great and socialization is too, she loves everyone! I just love her temerament and we're enjoying the training. I barely need a leash, she just sticks to my heals...having had beagles previously, I love the velcro trait.

Welcome fellow Canadian! Beautiful pup you have there. Definitely good mix for you if you're going hiking and such. I have an English Mastiff pup and its a long walk even outside to go potty, he rather just sleep haha
