Got my pup in April.... So far so good, he's a handful that's for sure.... But we love him nonetheless! He's already gotten himself in trouble and needed surgery.... Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
He's beautiful! What's his name? Which breeder did you get him from? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Adorable! Can we ask what kind of trouble? Can I guess??? rocks, perhaps??? (seems to be a common puppy ailment... ) Looks like he recovered very, very well. Welcome to the forum!!
It took my girls about to 9 months before they stopped eating rocks. Then they moved on to the wood around the fire pit and then the house. We have a lot of chicken wire up in our back yard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
His name is Tonka, he is 4 months old and we got him from West Coast Boerboels in Abbotsford British Columbia.....HAHAHAH....yes rocks....I guess it's not uncommon with Boerboel? The surgery went well and fortunately he can't get to the staples on his stomach so the cone of shame is not needed. In a week the staples come out....keeping him fed....1 cup at a time....has been a challenge....since he eats ALOT more lol...Our backyard is "natural" and there are lots of rocks...twigs....a parent's worst nightmare....so we try our best to "monitor" him....a losing battle as you can imagine. Plus he's a food hound so he inhales his food and everything he finds....challenging to say the least.
Nice pup. This is my opinion but I think he is over fed. They Boerboel should never be heavy. This much weight as a pup can lead to joint issues down the road. If you go to the website and look at Troy, Sweetpea, Bonita, and Macy you can see they are very lean and well muscled but Raphael is bulky and heavy. I would reduce his intake or start him on raw I saw your post about the rock eating on Facebook and I don't know what to say except train to not mouth rocks at all. If you see him pick up a rock correct him with a stern "leave it" command. Be consistent with anything you don't want him to eat or you may end up back in surgery having a sock or something worse removed.
Hey, I've got your pups brother. Diesel is around 60 pounds now. When I brought him home he was 12.5. How much does Tonka weigh?
I noticed there is no health testing information on any of the dogs on the website. I hope you have seen the test results. Hip issues in these big guys can be a problem. Beautiful pup!
First, he's not overfed.... And he is doing fine.... Second, of course he's being taught "leave it" "out" commands. I do appreciate your "opinion".... One of the reasons you go on forums.... But remember... A picture is a" snapshot" and not a representation of what's true.... I've been around for a while, i do have an idea of what i'm doing. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
