Hello everyone, I wanted to say hi from Cypress, TX by way of New Orleans, LA. After years of researching, trying to decide between a Red Nose Pitbull, Cane Corso or Presa Canario (I believe all are great choices)...I decided on the Presa Canario and I must say that I'm happy I did. My Presa'a name is Deacon and he's 4 months now (16 weeks in the pics)...I'm looking forward to chatting with you guys, learning and sharing pics.

Hello, and welcome to the Family! He's an awesome looking specimen. I have a black brindle 5 month old. Please post about behavior/temperament and how you guide it.

Thanks for all the compliments on Deacon, I appreciate it. Alejandro, it was a hard choice honestly. I felt all the breeds I was considering, I felt would be loyal to my family, protect my family and be gentle with the kids in my family. The history, temperament and look of the Presa Canario is what drew me to it. I got the sense of power, courage and agility when looking at pictures and watching videos.

Joe Flynn, his behavior/temperament is balanced. He's very alert to sounds around the house, sounds outside of the house (on walks) and to strangers. Some people he'll bark at and others he'll be fine. He loves playing with kids and he's not dog aggressive. Now he'll see another dog and he'll get in his stance but he won't charge or try to get to them. Dogs bark at him but it doesn't bother him, he looks and keep on walking. The neighbors in my community loves him and love that they can trust their kids around him. I guide it by socialize him every chance I get, having 3 minute obedience training sessions everyday, rewarding good behavior and when walking him, I allow his instincts to do what they're supposed to do.

Beautiful! You may be right, head looks maybe a bit slimer than my boy's head. Difficult to see from pics anyway, could just be angles and so forth.

The temp on mine is usually very chill. He notices sounds and so on but doesnt really bother checking other than lifting up his head haha. I try to get him used to lots of sounds so he wont jumpo everytime theres a random noise around. On walks he is very good! he can walk beside me, behind me and knows the cue "free" very well, he runs around sniffing but never far away. He is in a stage now where he really pushes my limits. From what ive understood from this breed I got one more stage to get through. He isreally stubborn when he does it, but I just keep reminding him of who is the boss around here and he's fine for a while :)
To strangers he is not a danger to put it mildly! He gives a couple of barks at some people, but it goes over quick and if I say "yes, go greet" he goes wagging his tail towards the person. He loves people alot! Dogs are a bit scary still, but met two huskies that he loved playing with from the start :)

Sounds like you've got a real winner. Mine is doing a lot better than when I first got her, but I'm still ironing out some bad habits from previous home. I've only had her a month, she is 5 months old and from a bad home. So I have to remind my self that I've made progress.

That's the key part Joe - there are no magic instant fixes, just patience and consistency. Glad to hear she's found a better place!
