I know some mastiffs or any large breeds can have issues with growing pains like Pano and I don't think there is a whole lot that you can do short of the anti-inflammatories but we do have a vet tech on here that hopefully will see your post and be able to provide some insight or maybe can tell you some questions to ask the vet on what you can do to make him more comfortable.

Maybe a fear stage with the walk refusal? its common with growing Em's. The eye thing worries me, it could be a common eye condition that is genetic, our one pup has it, and it could make them go blind in that one eye, so def check with the vet.

I wouldnt force an English Mastiff under a year on any walk. Whatever rough and tumble play they do around the house and yard is usually sufficient for such a large breed when their skeleton is still developing. There is a possibility of movement in the hips that could already be causing the dog pain, but at 7 months, that could be a sign of severe displacia. I would have the dogs hips checked asap, by a vet that is sensitive to your concerns. I dont see why vets just dismiss these things and send dogs home saying that they cant find the problem, when something is obviously wrong. Weak knees arent good either, and they dont always strengthen, and some dogs can be completelly crippled by 3 to 4 years old. Im not trying to scare you but if there is a problem I think a vet should be obligated to find it. I dealt with a similar vet when I accidentally broke my dogs foot by opening a door over the top of it. She didnt even want to bother taking an x ray, and just wanted to tell us it was ok and gave us some pills. We complained and had the main vet look at it, and it was broke. As far as the eye, have you been pulling on him with the leash really hard? I dont know about dogs but when a person is choked, the blood vessels in the eyes will break, causing blood shot eyes and black eyes. Other than that, I dont know. A vet should be answering these questions. With some of the advice that I've recieved from vets, I think I could almost open a shop tomorrow and call myself a vet.

How does the dog act outside, off the leash, in a yard?
