Thank you! The photos really make it look like we nailed it, but not so much, lol. We got the first of 4 searches, then nothing. Yogi kind of totally lost it when we walked into the different rooms for searches 2-4; he just wanted to meet everyone and look around... it was like "nosework, what's nosework?". I swear he just started pawing random boxes to either get a treat or just be done so he could move on and get petted by everyone. I learned that I really need to get him out and searching in different places at different times and just do a lot more practicing. But it was definitely fun!Gorgeous photos! You can totally see your guys' relationship through the photos. How did you guys do at the trial?
Thank you, there's just such a great quality to professional pictures; I think I take some great pics of my dogs, but then I see stuff like this and there's just no comparison. Those are some beautiful pics!
I've taken some field trip classes with him and we go to various places around the area. I've kind of taken a little bit of a break with training activities with Yogi to focus on Lillie to see what she might be good at given she's so young. That said, yes there are definitely people in my area who go out and do nose work; I hope to pick it back up with him a bit more this spring, but I kind of want to focus on shed hunting since the season is coming up really soon and also do some barn hunt with him.Are you part of a Nosework club? There is a local one to me that does nose work classes in different environments; stores, schools, parks, fields etc... There is also someone on my FB (a BB breeder) that is in a club that does the same. They call it a "traveling nose work" group.
Shed hunting sounds like so much fun! I watched the video of you and Yogi training in the other thread.I've taken some field trip classes with him and we go to various places around the area. I really like shed hunting because it's something we can go out and do for real; not contrived as a sport or formal activity. My grandmother still owns 50 acres in rural WI, so we are going to try again this year up there. She puts out salt licks and planted crab apple trees for the deer. Last year when we were really new to the sport we went up there and all Yogi wanted to do was eat deer poop. I guess the upside to that is I know there are deer there, lol. With the practice this year, I'm hoping he's a little focused on the task at hand.Shed hunting sounds like so much fun! I watched the video of you and Yogi training in the other thread. I seriously cannot wait to get a puppy to start working a dog at a younger age. I waited a loooong time with Thalia and just started with Angus. I think it would be fun to explore things with a younger dog.
