Just wanted to tell about my experience from this breeder in Dallas. Spoke to Erik in December, went out and met him and decided to put a $500 deposit on a puppy from a litter that was to be born in Feb. All emails from him said everything was good, up until the week the puppy was to be born. He then said the mom reabsorbed the puppies, and none were born. He said I could get a pup from his brother, which I said no. I asked for the $500 back, as I didn't feel comfortable with the whole deal-to which he said no bc of the contract I signed. He said he would send me info on the next litter soon, but I haven't heard from him since.

I'm not that concerned about the money- but I did want to warn others about the whole thing. Just felt very off, never heard why the dog didn't have the pups, never really got an explanation on much. All his reviews are good online, but my interactions with him turned very shady at the end. At this point I wouldn't buy a puppy from him, and WOULD NOT recommend others do either.

have you triedto contact him or just waiting on him to contact you? i think you might be jumping to conclusions to quickly in my opionion of corse. these things happy and fequently. i know a breeder who thought she was going to be having a litter of 8 pups from an ultrasound and the momma only put out 2 then they freaked out and rushed to vet for an ultrasound to tell them no there are no more pups in there... its only been 2 months since last litter he must wait on the dogs cycles to breed not his schedule...
I guess what i'm saying is you initially thought very highly of him maybe you need to step back and put the emotional upset of not getting a pup now behind and look at the bigger picture?

Re-absorption is not unusual in females and while you are disappointed it is not something that a breeder can guard against. It can happen in early stages or as a close friend found out she lost her litter around day 50 (pups arrive around 60-63 days) and had every test run and check and there was no reason for it.

Contracts also vary by breeder but most I know are non-refundable. Some breeders don't take deposits until the female has whelped and others take them from the start of confirmation or before should someone want to leave it in advance. Most I know do not give refunds but will move the deposit to another litter of your choice but that would have been laid out in the contract I would expect.

Once emotions get in the way rational/subjective thinking falls off. You paid the money to hold a pup, you signed a contract...yes, it's probably not an easy pill to swallow and you may be thinking you're getting the shaft, but no one made you sign the contract or pay the money.

And as HeatherA said perfectly as well, "Maybe you need to step back and put the emotional upset of not getting a pup now behind and look at the bigger picture."

I put down on a deposit on the same litter believe it or not. Erik was upfront from the get go about what happened with the pups. I actually went up to Dallas today to pick out my pup and I can tell you he is 100% the real deal. He has some great looking dogs on his yard, sounds like you better talk to him before you go and try to dump him in the grease. I recommend this breeder to anyone looking for a top quality corso.

As far as deposits are concerned, I never kept them, I took them as a good faith gesture. If someone changed their mind, or something happened where they couldn't take the pup, I returned their deposit. I didn't breed often and it wasn't a source of income so it didn't bother me. I always had a list of puppy byers waiting. That said, the breeders I dealt with would keep deposits unless they didn't have a puppy for the buyer. The above posters are correct, a bitch absorbing her pups happens . It happened to me twice with the same bitch. It turned out that her uterus was filled with scar tissue from a prior C-section and the blastocysts couldn't implant properly. I think Heather A is right, step back a bit. Maybe you should go and talk to the breeder face to face. It sounds like you need more information. Good luck!

This is Erik Wofford Of Phantom Corsos. I did not have this exact experience but something seemed off about my interactions with him once the litter I was waiting on arrived. I’m glad I didn’t give him any money. I agree with the above and would NOT recommend doing business with him. This is two strikes now and this is just people who spoke up on this forum.
