A 5 month old Fila (or any breed) being scared of an aggressive PB is not unusual at all IMHO. No telling what the previous experiences had been for the pup. I have not owned a Fila but did own a CC and currently have 2 Tosa's and I think that he will soon find his comfort zone with discipline and consistency. Good luck and don't get frustrated.

What kind of training are you currently doing with him? How do you plan on training him?

Right now , we just got potty training down, but I still don't trust him 100%
He loves his create, and he sleeps in there for now, as soon as my wife gets up it's out for a pee, after his pee he gets a good boy n a peace of kibble...
Then inside for breakfast , then is aloud to watch my wife get ready for work. Then back in the create, then when I get up it's the same ....
We tell him no when he's doing something wrong....
We already got sit , lay down n roll over done
Shake,

I would not be allowing a Fila off lead in a public place ever. While it would be very rare for a Fila to bite at 5 months, some start coming in to their temperament around 6 months. I would still be getting my pup out and about but I would have it on a leash.

Shake,

Do you use marker training or training and rewarding with food? This can be very helpful in building a bond with your puppy. I suggest on working on getting his attention. Work on building value to his name. Work on attention and focus, just the basics. Keep training short and fun. When he gets older, start proofing his commands. Work on recall early on. Work on leash skills too. If you need any ideas, there are many free videos on youtube. If you still can't find anything that works - just ask. Right now it probably sounds like he needs to work on his impulse control, but I understand he is a puppy. A puppy shouldn't have too much freedom or get away with too many things. Negative behaviors are harder to break than building the behavior you want from the start and start a NILIF (nothing in life is free) or learn to earn program and stick with it forever.

I am by no means an expert but I did raise my first fila Tubarao and although he is not fully grown I did learn a lot from him. I will share with you what I have learned. Fila's are different than any other kind of dog. They also come with different personalities for example, one fila may be laid back and submissive while another is constantly testing you and is always trying to exhibit their dominance. Fila's also do not like to be ignored so an acceptable form of punishment when they are behaving badly is to ignore them. Spanking never hurts them, they could care less. They are similar to a cat in how if you mistreat them they will turn a blind eye to you and have been known to hold a grudge. They are way more emotionally charged then any other dog.

With all this said. Tubarao my first fila was the more relaxed type. He was a breeze to train and listens to me very easily. I rarely have to repeat a command. Now my new fila Carma is like night and day. She is a total bitch and is always pushing boundaries. She is just a total handful. Two totally different fila learning experiences for me.

You will learn as you go. But from the sound of it you are doing a pretty good job. George sounds like a well trained boy. Fila will bark and they do a lot of it. If Tubarao see's my neighbors although they are 3 football fields away he will just sit there and bark until I yell at him.

I've been trying to take him to the dog park (off leash but we've been keeping both on the leash) everyday now, to socialize him, and try to make him tolerate people n dogs a little more.

If he's an even moderetly true tempered Fila this sort of thing is basically ASKING for him to attack someone. He's NOT going to become more tolerant of people. He is infact going to become LESS tolerant of people as he continues to mature. And with him off leash you are NOT going to be able to stop him if he decides to take action.

I have a 2-year old EM who used to get excited at play time and try to bite my face. I got him to quit doing that and now he just drags me around by the arm. lol

Your puppy is adorable. Good luck with him!

He is getting better every trip, I would never let him be off leash
We had new people over yesterday , there was a little bark, then he liked both of them, he really follows my EM lead...

Weather he like new people or not, I'm teaching him to b tolerant of people that I say are ok...

so glad things are getting better.

as a 20+ Fila owner, please be careful with those that come into your home and also out in public. one of my Filas from years ago was decent and listened to me with friends in the home as a young pup. at the 10 month mark she went after a friend that had been around her a lot as a pup, then friend was busy and hadn't been around in a couple of months. it was quick and very scary for my friend. luckily, I was able to grab her tail before she got to my friend. their relationship was never the same after that.

Filas can come into their temp. at any time. I had a pup that was full on at 4 months and then one that didn't come into it until she was almost 2yrs old. she would growl, but that was about it until one day she just got it and it clicked she was a Fila.

just remember no matter how much training and bonding, they have their own mind and will be who and what they were bred to be.

Thats a great point Fila4me. There have been some Filas people gave up on way to early because they had a preconcieved belief that one must have shown temperament by a certain age. I have also seen some good pups ruined because people pushed them hard way too young.

Well I'm now going on 5weeks with George , just before 4 weeks I really noticed a big difference with him. I think he
Finally bonded with use, he now enjoys laying in bed with us and being cuddled, he now sleeps with us and loves it.
He still doesn't have free rain of my house but has the up stairs, he's been very good, but he chewed my bed up,
(Wife was pissed but I didn't really like it anyways)
He's growing very fast and is always hungry.
He's turning into a very good friend, and I've started taking him in the woods witch he seems to love running on the deer trails. image.jpg

That's a lot of dog in one bed! Hahaha It's a running joke in my house (but partly serious) that we are going to have to get a bigger bed so that we can all sleep in bed comfortably. For the most part right now, it's only the dogs who get to sleep in bed comfortably. :p

Ya my wife is a light sleeper and doesn't like them on the bed
The roof could be ripped off the house and I probably wouldn't wake up
I said we should put 2 king size bed together in a room, but the wife said that would be stupid....

Hahahaha 2 king sized beds sounds like it would be perfect! Although, knowing my dogs, it would just be more room for them and I'd still be stuck with my tiny corner of bed. Haha
