Pork Ribs

I have been feeding my kids pork ribs almost since we started raw. I know there are different cuts of ribs but a rib is a rib, right? This last bunch, the bone seems a lot harder but actually feels lighter. Any thoughts on why?

Higher or lower on the ribs? Whoops..I don't know. I'm someone that didn't know how to cut up a whole chicken until we were almost a year into raw feeding. I'll tell you what though. I am really ticked off at the fried chicken places. They have been cheating me for years. They have been selling me 8 pieces and telling me I was getting a whole bird. I got 12 pieces when I hacked up my chicken. :scared2:

having never seen a pig cut up, but unless they're from a juvinile pig I can't imagine thats the WHOLE half a rib cage? A full grown pig is larger around than I am....

hah, Shoulda seen me the first time I tried to debone a bird lol (I was trying to get the breast meat for me and hubby and the rest for the dogs....), I didn't cut my fingers off, but thats about all I can say about it!

Baby back is the top by backbone and generally from a hog not a sow. Spare ribs or sometime St Lou ribs are mid to bottom portion and tips are the very bottom or stomach portion. They also have a shoulder/rib cut sold as country ribs, very tough, but a good work out for dogs. The lower cuts are flatter thinner denser bones.

Ruth it takes me forever to cut things up. I'm not willing to hurt myself. I guess that comes with getting older.

Oak they are so cute but they are so yummy! My dogs want to know why they can't have one.

As far as the difference in bone I would agree with Ruth, probably from an older pig.
