Potty Trained but poops Upstairs

Perris

New Member
Hello,
I have a 1 year old brindle bullmastiff named Perris, she is about 100 lbs and is the sweetest dog i have ever owned. She is completely house trained and never goes in the house, currently she has a couch down stair that she sleeps on and a gate that prevents her from going up stairs. My daughter really wants Perris to sleep in her room but every time I let her upstairs she poops on the carpet and will go from room to room trying to poop or pee. Anyone have any ideas on how to get her to not poop or pee upstairs so I can appease my daughter and not have to replace my carpet?

Welcome aboard~ Did Perris grow up in the house? Have you had her checked at the vet to make sure it's not a medical issue? Does she do the potty thing in the same place? Have you purchased cleaners specifically made to eliminate the potty smell?

Jiggers was the same only it was the basement. I treated it just like the original housebreaking, no freedom to roam until he had proven that he was trustworthy. Leashed, free in room with me, free in room and hall then adding 1 room at a time until he had access to the entire basement.
