potty training my corso!????

Hello everyone! I got my first corso 8 weeks ago! she is almost 5 months now. Hopefully someone has some ideas or answers for me! My first question is potty training her. I have had dogs forever. I have 3 total. Never had any problems with housebreaking in the past. (I have gotten dogs at all ages too! )UNTIL NOW! So my corso seems to like to pee wherever she feels its ok. in the house and outside. (on the concrete) and poop on the concrete. She doesnt poop in the house. she lets me know to go outside and poop. This is where it is weird. When I take her out, she knows right where to go to relieve herself. now if she is outside alone with the other dogs, she pees and poops on the concrete. if I go outside, she goes in the correct place. now inside the house, she just pees anywhere. she gives me no warning, just like "o this is good" and pees. Im getting extremely frusterated. so is my husband. I have done everything to help her out. she goes out right after the kennel, after eating, after playing.etc. she will even go potty outside, and in 15/30 minutes, pee again in the house. I have taken her to the vet to get her urine tested, and no infection. We did however find out that to much protein was causing sand size struvite stones in her bladder. at first I figured the random peeing was due to that and so did the vet. But she doesnt have any problems now. AND SHE EATS POOP! I have looked into the whole RAW diet thing, and still doing research. ( tons swear that helps with poop eaters) she is on a good kibble diet now. but i'm still looking into the raw thing. she might be having nutritional issues? idk? other research I have done suggest maybe pancreas issues? which maybe her weird pee problem? SOOOO, any advice from other fellow corso owners!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! has anyone had housebreaking issues similar?

Not sure on how you trained or have been training the potty issue but this is how I tell my students.

In the home the dog needs to be one what I call the house leash & tied to you.
The dog never goes out of your site.
You start by taking the pup out every 20 minutes to an hour depending.
You go to the door of chose and say potty.
Outside for 5 to 10 min max
You have a treat in hand
when they either do 1 or 2 you PRAISE THEM LIKE IT WAS THERE BDAY
'GOOD POTTY"
You dont go back for an hour
If they do not go potty, you go and praise them "good potty" NO TREAT
then you go back in 20 mins
When you are outside they are still on the house leash, you take them to the area you want them to go potty at. so the puppy is NOT potting on your cement

If you keep doing this the dog will soon tell you when it has to go potty and you can take off the leash... Do the leash for about a week to two weeks depending on how they are learning.

Also crate the dog when you can not have them tied to you... like cooking dinner, eating dinner, etc. Throwing the dog out site will not have teach the animal to learn to hold it or separation

Many puppies eat there poop just b/c its a habit they get into and they continue until you fix it. But keeping them on the leash and pulling them away once they are done going it will also start to create a new habit ..

thank you for replying! I have tried the leash thing in the house for 3 days after about 3 weeks of her doing this behavior. but my problem was that she was such a cry baby! and I have a 9 month old daughter. and when she would need to nap, the dog would be crying. whining. barking. crying. etc. we are finally at a point now, in her kennel, she has almost stopped with the whining. I should try the leash thing again. I just cannot have her tied to me because of my daughter. but i will keep her in the room we are in tied to something. It has come to the point that when she is in the house, she is in her kennel because she just randomly pees. and its weird too because she will pee in just a sit position. she did it the other day on the carpet. we were at the counter in the kitchen having a conversation, and she is sitting there. ( like u would tell your dog to sit) no squatting or anything, and she starts peeing. and then lays in it. thats why i am just so confused on her. we have never had a dog act like this. and her peeing is such a random amount of urine. thats why i took her to the vet. thought infection. but she doesn't have one. so I'm just lost at this point. I have never hit her or scolding her to the point where she thinks she needs to hide it or something? its just bizarre.
and on the poop eating, she has never been allowed to eat it. i stand outside with the scooper so the second they are done, i can pick it up. and she looks around, like "ahh what did you do with that poop? i was going to eat it!" She has definitely improved on the behavior, but if she is left alone, when we leave or she is just outside getting some sun, and a dog pottys. she eats it. I don't have the schedule to watch her 24/7. I watch her about 20/7! lol. but during the day, the dogs need to go out, i have a daughter that needs to be taken care of. so I'm hoping time will just help?

We've never had issues like that with potty training, either. Denna was SOOOOO easy, as was our other giant guardian breed dog (GSD/Rott/Pyrn mix). Our Dane/lab mix was more of a challenge, but by 9 months he was 99% good in the house, and he did try, he just didn't have enough patience to wait for me to notice he needed out. :)

Is she spayed already? The only thing that comes to mind is the spay-incontinence issue due to hormone levels. That, and being 5 months old, her bladder muscles may still be developing to some extent, but I would think she'd be beyond that by now - and I would expect her to show some reluctance to sitting in it!

As for the poop-eating. We have that issue here, too. This is our first female dog, and apparently they are more prone to poop-eating than the boys. Something about keeping the nest clean for puppies. I also read going raw was supposed to help... nope. That's when Denna's poop became tasty, she didn't bother with kibble poop. We've tried all the supplements, probiotics and other 'fixes' recommended online... no help. We've just resigned ourselves to keeping the yard clean (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). Denna does have a good "leave it" and will walk away from it when asked - but she remembers where she 'put it', and will go right back to that spot on the next outdoor excursion looking for a snack. Sigh.

well I just talked to my girlfriend who has my dogs sister.and she said her dog is doing the same behavior with peeing. no poop eating. but peeing. walking and peeing. she said she was even trying to get on the couch the other day, front legs on the couch, back legs still on ground. and peed! wtf!!! this is just so weird.
I have also thought bladder incontinence, but she sleeps all night in her kennel with no issues. about 8 hrs total from the last time she goes out. maybe a marking thing? but she is still young for that I think? I am hoping after she gets spayed she will stop? maybe its a marking thing because of my other dogs? but my girlfriend doesn't have any other dogs. so its something with this litter I think? two dogs from the same litter have the same issues?

The first thing that came to my mind when I read that she is peeing without realizing it was that she might have some sort of urinary infection. Having full sisters with the same problem makes me wonder if there may not be some sort of genetic or physiological reason behind it. If it was my dog I would take her to a vet and explain my concerns and mention that her sister does the same thing because it sounds like more than just a puppy that is hard to housebreak.

I think so too. I have taken her to the vet for urine test and its fine. I also figured getting her at 12 weeks versus 8 will take a lil longer to house train,(which i knew getting into before i got her) just due to missing those crucial first couple weeks. but honestly, I have had dogs and rescued dogs at all ages, and housebreaking is done in about a week. I'm EXTREMELY consistent. and even more so now with my 9 month old crawling on the floor! So now, going on having her 8 weeks, I'm starting to get concerned. Also after talking to my girlfriend today, she said she's having the same issues. The first couple days she got her, we just associated her being a puppy, its normal. but after my friend having her for a few weeks now and getting to know the dog, the behavior is exactly the same! ???
I'm not sure what a vet could or would actually say about her just peeing without an infection being present. ya know? is there a test to see if there is a genetic problem with peeing??? something her bladder would show. there are so many "what ifs."

I am just brainstorming, no actual experience, but what if the bladder or some other part of the urinary duct work is weak. I don't know how spay-induced incontinance works but I do know that it is treatable with medication. Since those females leak urine maybe whatever medication that helps them may help your girl.

Hi. I had a problem very similar to that with Elvis. He would pee wherever but would poop outside. What I started doing was watching him like a hawk and after about two days of consistently catching him mid stream, telling him no and then we would go outside and wait until he went pee out there. Once he did that, I would praise him and show him how great he was. He caught the hint. The poop eating was the worst. For me, it had to do with the cat box (which my husband started calling it Elvis' Snack Box) In that case, I changed what I was giving as a treat to real meat in very small portions. Think snack reward here. After about a week, he quit going to the 'snack box'. For him, it had to do more with consistency, kind of like what his mother would feed him. I hope this helps some.

elvismom. I have started watching like a hawk even more than i was! and I havent had any problems the past couple days. So, I'm it could be a couple things to factor, 1, she is finally getting it and growing out of this stage, and 2 i made a discovery after she was separated from my other female, and then around her again after being alone for 2 hrs or so, she peed on the concrete outside, so i'm now wondering if it is part of a submissive peeing going on with the female, that i havent noticed before?? its a possibility??
and the poop eating, ahh its the worst thing isnt it! so nasty. I have to pick it up so quick so she doesnt get it. shes now trying to eat it before my other dogs are done!! with her own stool, it seems like she can leave it and walk away. but the other dogs. nope. right away. i hope she grows out. i will try the treat with food tho today. she is food driven!
Dennas mom, thank you for googling some info!!! i will look in to these sites too! I have googled a couple things as well, and found a couple medical issues that she does/could fit the description for. but I would hope to think thats not the case and its just a puppy behavior!! although I am keeping a very close eye on things to make sure it isnt a medical issue. lets hope its not! and just plain old puppy stuff going on, and maybe just submissive behavior!! :) Thank you so much for "digging" for me! I have been "digging" for hours on the comp! we always want our puppies healthy and happy, right! :)

Yes the poop thing was definitely the 'nasty' factor for me. I was relieved that for Elvis, it had more to do with 'just like mom used to make' syndrome. Of course, my husband the all supportive one, would laugh and point it out that Elvis was back at the 'snack box' and I would have to catch him and divert him....there is nothing like being greeted by your puppy who still has speckles of kitty litter on his face....gross! Thankfully, we are done with that, although I do spray down my yard on a daily basis now that I realize that poop is still attractive to him....lol

Absolutely!! I can't help but dig... I love these fur-babies. :) Interesting note about the behavior happening with the other female around... you may be on to something?

elvismom.. yes i know how spraying down the backyard goes! i do it everyday with soap and push broom! hopefully once i get this thing figured out, she will stop having accidents on the concrete! and i can just spray the area of potty!! phewww
smart family..we have had some issues with food, her breeder did bison wolf cub, and i did too, but with this urine problem, i took her in and her urine was showing to much protein was causing struvite stones, the size of sand. so we switched her to an adult food with lower protein and chicken source, but that caused awful stool the whole time she ate it. so i switched her to a lamb source, and it helped immediately, after doing more research on the brands, i liked this natures variety.so currently, i am feeding her natures variety, beef . Almost finished with a food change from the lamb source, once 100% on this brand, i am going to add in the raw part of the diet. this brand makes their own. its a freezer bought type.it will add moisture to the diet which i have read that could help, have you heard of it? lamb and beef seem to keep her stool normal. i have been researching the raw diet. there are so many things about it that could help.if she is having a nutrient issue? its such a controversial issue!!! my goodness! But im still doing my research. I do see the benefits of it 100%. any thoughts? are you pro raw?
Dennas mom..yes i think that might be an issue. today we are still doing great! I'm starting to think time is helping too. just maturing a little bit more. she will be 5 months next week. and every pup is different, maybe she just needed more time! and of course me doing ALLLL this research, things are starting to look up! :)

Hi Aaron. Welcome to the board. Your post is likely to get lost here since this one is very old. Can you make a new one of your own and tell us more about what's going on? How do you handle accidents, how you clean accidents, do you crate train, etc. Any information will help. Also, have you had your girl checked for a UTI?
