Proper tail docking for the Cane Corso

I realize this might not be a contentious topic like I promised, lol. But I have a question regarding proper tail docking for Corsi. I've always liked the look of the Cane Corso. My wife also likes the look and they remind me of the old Mastino. I knew a guy that had one back in the late 90's and I thought it was one of the coolest looking dogs around. Ears cropped and a 1/3 of his tail docked. Similar to a Neo. Now it seems that every Corso i see has his tail docked like a boxer or like a Boerboel. What is the acceptable standard now? I realize I can check the AKC webpage but I'd rather hear from you guys. My wife isn't palatable to getting a CAFIB Fila, unfortunately. As a result, it looks like Miel's future brother will be a Cane Corso. :)

We have a rescue CC & her tail is docked at the 4th vertebrae & she has natural ears :) Recently adopted a CC pup (Mom was a CC, dad "suppose" to be but doubt it) he's got his tail & natural ears & will stay that way :)

The kennel club has the dock at the fourth vertebrae.

So would that be 1/3 of the dog's tail? Or is the 4th vertebrae dock the "Boxer look?" I'm assuming it is. Before 2000, it seems that most of the Corsi had the dock at 1/3.

That's great you rescued your CC. I rescued two Neos; it's a lot of work but worth it! Kudos!

Thanks, kudos to you too!! I agree it is a lot of work but so worth it!! Our new pup is from the same rescue we got our adult CC from :)

It isn't quite a third, but should be significantly longer then boxers.
Many are cropped shorter to hide kinks, some is human error. Personally I prefer a longer then shorter dock. That way no one can claim hiding a kinker  which is pretty common.
I am looking forward to the contentious Corso conversation.
Like the fila there is quite the divide in the cc community. In the states there is talk of the rottie, neo, pit bull all added to the mix. In Italy in some kennels you have the obvious boxer/ bull mastiff influence.

The 4rth vertebraa is the one you want to tell your Vet. My breeder told me to be careful since some VETS will cut the tail wrong.
Be sure to TELL them I want the 4rth Vertebrae otherwise if you go to show and its wrong you may have an issue. Sure enough I asked a few vet and my breeder was right. I come to the conclusion some breeders know alot more about Dogs than vets since vets are often taught the remember so much info on a wide variety of dogs. The breeder I got my dog from is San Rocco Cane Corso, but there are alot of good breeders out there and alot of bad ones. I am a bit mixed on ear cropping? Whats the thoughts on this board, should it get mine done? I have a few weeks to decide.

Thanks
Dennis.
