Puppy Growth (uneven back)

I feel like I've read where someone answered this in a thread but I can't find anything using the search function.

Is it normal for a growing Mastiff puppy to have their front legs and back legs grow at a slightly different pace? The reason I ask is that when looking at Lincoln standing profile it seems like his rear end is a good inch taller than his shoulders. Is this typical? When he's full grown his back should be flat, correct?

I just got my first giant breed puppy puppy and have to get used to the strange growth spurts as well. Right now stone is sporting a camel or roach back. Both his parents had flat backs so I'm hoping he will even out in the end as well.

All of my OEM's have grown differently. With my last I was worried that his rear would never catch up to his chest! With my curent pup, it seems that his back is too narrow to support his frame and I constantly wonder if his weight is on target. To everyone else he looks great but to me he always appears thin. All of my OEM's ended up filling up nicely and there were no issues so my worrying was totally unnecessary! I think its normal to wonder and worry about your pup, it means you love him or her!

Yeah, when I checked him this morning it didn't seem as pronounced as it had the last few days. Less than 1/2 inch difference between the top of the back hip and his shoulders. He's a little rounded in the back middle of his back, but I'm sure everything will even out.

Kryten can have upto a 2 inch difference between the height of his shoulders and hips. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1344526739.552324.jpg
This isn't the greatest photo but it does show his hind end taller than his front.
My other dog also showed a similar growth pattern while he was growing. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1344526839.196353.jpg

Jake is the same, he seems to grow like a see saw, right now his hind end is taller than his front, it's taking a while for it to level out and I am worried that he will just stay that way (he'll be 1 year old on Aug 15), but I spoke with some people at a dog show here last weekend and they said not to be concerned that he his front end will catch up.

Thanks for asking the question, void. I was wondering the same thing. I'd read something about it, but maybe it's only a bad thing if they settle that way at the end of their growth. Mira seems like she changes from uneven to balanced throughout the day, sometimes. A comfort to know that it's pretty normal.

Yeah, I'm glad to hear it seems normal too. Lincoln can definitely look a little like that second picture you posted Smoke, but he's quite a bit longer so it's not quite that pronounced.

I just measured Kryten and he has almost a 2 inch difference between his shoulders and back right now.

Damn.....I'll measure Lincoln tomorrow, but I don't think it's anywhere near two inches.

p.s. For those with their heads in the gutter (like me usually), I mean I'll measure his back. :)

Ruby always see sawed back & forth. Sometimes I wondered if it was painful; sure looked that way to me. It never slowed her down, she just kept growing front, then back. There were days when she only looked normal, going up or down the doggie ramp to the back yard.

Yea some days Buddha looks like someone installed air shocks on his back legs LOL Right now he's pretty even, but that may change in a couple of hours. heh
