Puppy size at 10 months

Hello all,

New to forum, first time Corso owner. In researching the breed prior to getting a pup, I was assuming normal adult height of 25-27" and weight around 110-120lbs. My pups Dad was about 120 and mom around 100. Since getting the puppy, I now see several people posting sizes waay beyond that. My little guy turned 10 months old this week. He is 23" at the withers, just under 90lbs. Would this be considered undersized for the breed? Should I expect him to gain much more height than where he is now? Ultimately it doesn't matter to me as long as he is healthy, I am just curious about others input and advice on expectations around further growth. Cheers to all!

I think your puppy isn't going to get that much bigger. He will just fill out. It's genetics and you can't control it. It's quite possible that the puppy will be smaller than the parents, but did you actually see them? In my experience, breeders are notorious for exaggerating the size of their dogs.

As the prior poster stated, if the dad and mom were those sizes, then I would expect to be where you are right now, in fact that's the perfect weight/size for that parental combo. In many places, 120 is the top end for a male, but as I am sure you have seen, folks are breeding them bigger.

My current Corso will be 10 months at the end of this month, and he is currently 121lbs with his dad weighing 145 and his mom 120. They do tend to grow a bit from 1 to 2 years old, but the sizable growth spurts come before 1 year old (of course there are outliers).

90lbs is still a big dog, and if he gets to 120, you'll be hoping he doesn't get any bigger. Just don't fall into the trap of over feeding to try and pack on the weight. Corso's can very easily develop joint/hip issues if they are overweight, which apart from being painful for the dog, can also be painful for your wallet with vet bills and surgery.
