Puppy's joints cracking.

Kryten just started another growth spurt and this one seems to be the worst. He is limping and all of his joints in his legs seem to be cracking. He has only had growth limping once before and the cracking is new.

Has your dog had cracking joints? Is it something that should worry me or is this just part of a giant breed puppy's normal growth?

Wow....he's getting old....

I have not heard Stone's bones cracking, however I started giving him supplements to help out with other "problem" areas.

I was curious about this as well. Sometimes, I hear Briggs' knees "popping" (for lack of a better word). It's not all the time, so I wasn't sure if it was something to worry about. We asked the vet about it when we took him in for his second round of shots, she said it could just be from him growing, and to keep an eye...or ear...on it. He goes back for his 3rd round of shots next Friday. It seems to come and go, but I don't hear it as much as I used to. He eats Earthborn Great Plains, I'm wondering if I should suppliment joint care?

Puppy pops are normal. But usually go away as the pup gains height. When you flex the back leg straight back and place your hand over the hip joint you may feel a slight pop. Same withflexing at the knee. If it begins to get more pronounced as the dog ages you may have joint issues. Cruiser had slight pops in his left leg/hip around 8 weeks that continued until about 14 weeks. Now sometimes he pops a bit when he gets up after laying a long time but the general popping in the flexed area has stopped. Our vet checks his rotation during every visit and I will make routine vet check visits about every three months until he is two years old. Just experience and it makes me feel better. After having a rotti with hip displaysia I've learned the importance of catching any joint issue early!

Briggs' seem to be in his knees (I think). That, to me, is where I seem to hear it from. The vet said she could feel a little pop in his knees, but didn't think it was anything to worry about just now. And I definitely don't hear it like I used to. He will be 3 months old tomorrow, and getting SO TALL already! There is so much to worry about with these big kids...

I noticed haileys legs and hips popping a few months ago when she would get up. I thought it had something to do with her hip and knee problems but a few weeks later I noticed Sadie's doing the same thing. I figured it was probably normal for giant breeds although I was a little worried when I first heard haileys popping.

This site has eased my mind about SO many things! Not that things should just be over-looked, but that I don't need to be rushing to vet every other day. Such great information on here!! :)

The poor boy is definitely getting taller. I didn't measure but there was a noticeable change while I was at work. I feel so bad that I can't help with his pain when he is just looking at me as if to say why do I hurt/help me. A bone however seemed to be a great pain reliever.

I am pretty sure that the cracking/popping that I heard is due to this new growth but thank you everyone for helping to put my mind at ease.

This seems to be common with Mastiffs, Colossus just had his 4 month visit and the vet said his hip was popping and had to do an xray to make sure it wasn't anything major, there wasn't anything wrong with him at all!!!

He was standing next to my bed this morning and his back was almost level with the top of the mattress. That's over 2.5 feet.

LOL, that is a big boy. :) I haven't noticed any joints cracking with Daisy but she hasn't had any growth problems and she has grown rather straight, which is good. She hasn't had her backend get higher than her front and vice versa but she is 11 months in a few days so there is still time for her to send me into a panic. :)
