My husband and I adopted Loki from the Detroit Humane Society in June of 2013. We were told she was tied to a front porch, and left abandoned. The Humane Society said they had no medical history or anything about her.

They guessed she was three years old, and fully grown. They said she was house broken, blah blah blah... We adopted her oh a whim, and never looked back. I fell in love!

The truth of the matter is that she was only 86 pounds when we adopted her, and was still a puppy. She had never walked on a leash, was not house trained, and had never eaten out of a bowl. She had to have a tumor (not cancerous) removed, and was spayed so poorly at such a young age it caused an internal infection that needed specialist care.

All that being said, we were told when we adopted her that she was a mastiff mix. I think she must be part, or all presa. There are lots of "breeders" close by, and with the bad press about the breed, presas have become increasingly common here...

I am no professional dog trainer, and I certainly have never trained her as a guard dog but I honestly would not need to. She is protective of her house, and her people. She is suspicious of strangers, until they are welcomed by either me or my husband, then she turns into a marshmallow towards them.

So anyway, what do you think? Breed guesses? It doesn't matter much either way, but I am curious.

The picture above was her as a pup, when I thought she was full grown....

I don't have a good side view picture. Her rear end is higher than her shoulders. She weighs about 105-110 pounds now. She isn't growing anymore.

She is stubborn beyond belief, and only listens to people she respects. She plays well with other dogs (I socialize her constantly), but she is an alpha dog type. She is way smarter than I thought she could ever be. She basically speaks English, and her instincts are astounding.

So... opinions?

I'm no expert, but she looks like a Presa to me. Her stop is a little hard -- maybe some bullmastiff in there at some point?

I'm glad she's turned into such a wonderful girl!

She kind of look like a Presa, and sounds like one, but it's hard to say from pics, she looks great anyway.

She has the looks and high rear end stance of a Presa, but doesn't matter - you love her and she's yours and congrats on the rescue! :)

My thought - Rescues are some of the best dogs out there - you go into it with very little pre-conceived notions of how the dog SHOULD be, so you can just grow up together and let the real dog come out.

Sounds like you found a winner! (and she sure found the right house, too!!)
