Ruger likes his food better outside of the bowl as well.....I brought him home at 6 weeks so it isn't for any reason other than the fact that likes it outside of the bowl. I feed him on a plate.....I actually found a large candle base that has tuend up sides that I dump his food on and most of it stays on the plate (As much as it ever did in the bowl anyway) LOL So, maybe the bowl is a part of it, if so....A good plate is an easy fix! :) I feed him Blue Wilderness (Blue buffalo) and he loves it and it DID pretty much stop the gas (At least it kept the paint from peeling off the walls) but it just depends on what part of the food that is giving him the gas (This is a battle I fought for sometime)....Ruger eats the Duck formula and like I said he absolutely loves it (On a plate :) ) I have heard many people say that chicken does not agree with Mastiffs but in Rugers case it is a perfect snack, meal, etc. The Duck formula does Have chicken fat, meal and such in it so if Chicken doesn't work for your baby I am sure you will know it! Good luck and what a wonderful thing you did by saving this big baby!! :)

When I got Tess she was 4 years old and came from an abusive owner, the guy used to kick her in the head. : ( She was terrified of everything, including me. Only liked whoever was the youngest, softest person in the room. I've just basically left her alone, let her discover on her own she's safe and no harm will come to her on my watch. she is happy and goofy now, and the only terrors she has left are with thunder and firecrackers. We dont get that enough here to desensitize her to it so it's an ongoing battle. But as far as everything else that used to scare her, like the vacuum, she's fine. when it comes to strangers she has the right temperament, she's leery of them until i welcome them into my home, and then she's fine, even with big men.

Just be calm and in control, he'll pick up on it. When Cesar Milan was here I went to his show and he said something that really resonated with me...

Imagine you have been injured and are laying on the side of the road helpless. Someone comes up and in a high pitched voice they're saying OH MY GOD LOOK AT YOU YOU'RE BLEEDING AAAUGHHHH how are you going to feel? someone else comes up and they're like Look. you're going to be fine. what's your name? Very matter of fact, very calm and in charge, then you're going to relax. It really brought that home to me.

I have all ready used some of Cesar Milans amazing techniques with Murphy. We are having a really hard time with him releasing things he shouldn't have. He locks downs his jaw and just ignores us, doesn't matter how stern we are. I have to run in the house and grab a treat and hope it works. Also he uses us as his toy holder as he chews it. Now I don't know about anyone else but I don't feel like having my EM's jaw clamp down on me by accident. I try and push him away with a NO and if he ignores me I stand and turn away. Anyone else having this issue

I was worried about that, but he has yet to put anything other than a treat and some food in his mouth. I've tried testing it out, but he just isn't interested.

This morning he woke me up pawing at me. It was really cute. And welcomed since either I didn't set my alarm or shut it off in my sleep. But about 30 minutes after the alarm normally goes of, he woke me up. I think he is already getting used to the potty schedule we have started. As soon as we got moving around, he wondered over to the back door. I can't get enough of this guy! Love his personality and everyday I see improvement in how comfortable he feels in his new home. So excited to see what He will be like when he's ready to be himself!!

Rugers, I tried a much bigger bowl tonight, like a 3 gallon Tupperware mixing bowl. That helped. He ate his entire dinner! But didn't touch his lunch that was left out for him while I was at work. I started him on the blue buffalo last night, he appears to like it more than the science diet. I think it partially has something to do with the size of the chunks of food. These are much smaller and probably easier for the lazy guy to eat.
