Should I buy from a Local Breeder or Get Puppy Shipped? (Cane Corso)

So I just moved to Dallas, TX and haven't had much luck with finding a breeder here. I checked out a solid breeder here but the dogs just don't have the look I like. I want to get a girl and would like her to be grey. I like dogs without wrinkles on their muzzle and the head to be more mastiff like than pitbull or boxer.

The breeders i've seen from online pictures without the wrinkles are Roman Cane Corso, Firehorse CC and Castleguard CC.

So my question is, should i fly up to see them? Are they reputable? Has anyone had any experience with these breeders? Because I would really like to be able to see the dogs and where they're raised et.c before spending 2k on a puppy. Are there any reputable breeders in Dallas?

Welcome to Dallas! I do not know of any breeders in Dallas area. I'm sure the CC owners will post a reply.

Hi there!

I don't know much about this but I got my pup from a breeder (Black Shadow Cane Corso in NB, Canada) and she bred her girl with a FireHorse Dog. GrCh FireHorse Dorian is my puppy's daddy. I didn't see the dad when I got my puppy, but I know he is certified AKC Canine Good Citizen and TDI - Therapy Dog International. I didn't visit FireHorse, so I cannot testify as to the condidtion that they are living in... but knowing my breeder chose them gives me peace of mind that they are likely great.

Oh... and my puppy is nothing short of AMAZING. Such a good puppy... it is almost unbelievable.

.... and ridiculously handsome to boot :) ... Here are a few pics of him.

I personally would not buy a puppy from any breeder if I couldn't meet them and their dogs in person. I feel it's important to be able to see how the dogs moves and interacts with me. I also want to see how well the breeder takes care of all the dogs. The internet is a great place to start and figure out what type of CC you prefer, but nothing beats a face to face meeting. I'm not familiar with breeders in the Dallas area, but some others on the site might be.

I am a little confused... Roman CC have lots of wrinkles. That is common in the lines that they use. That is more the American dogs, they in general tend to be wetter. Have you contacted Phantom Cane Corso in TX? Other then color what are you looking for in a CC? I would contact Firehorse and Castleguard and talk to them then go from there.

If you have the ability to fly and meet the breeders and dogs in question then absolutely I would do so, for some that isn't feasible that is why it is stressed to build a relationships as much as you can with your breeder as you are going to be tied to them for the next 10-12 years. Contact breeders you like the look of the dogs on and talk to them, you can perhaps also find out if they have dogs closer to you that you can meet in person as well, as flying out to meet them.

I have use Firehorse males in my program and have had wonderful results and am more than happy to have used both Firehorse's Dorian and Firehorse's Franklin and gotten some pretty good results from the pairing. Ron and Jen also are awesome people to work with and talk to and I think they have a co-own that is in CA that might be expecting a litter in the next bit or so.

I have no personal experience with the others.

All the best with your search and let us know if we can help with anything.

PS Love big Tony!

Cody, i've contacted them and went to check out their puppies. They are who i would go with if i was going to go with a local breeder. I wasn't as impressed with their dogs as I am with the other breeders. Their male had wrinkles on the muzzle, although the females did not.

Other than color and sex, i'm looking for a protective and loving dog. It's just my wife and I and i'm more so looking for a companion for her when i'm away, as well as a dog that can protect her if necessary.
