I just picked up Sonja (my foster dog) from the vet yesterday. She was there since Monday for her last heartowrm treatment. So far everything has been going really well and everyone at the vet clinic is astonished to see that the treatment has not hurt her at all!!! They told me that other dogs that have been treated there for heartowrm have been in a lot of pain and so forth, but not my Sonja!!!

Thats good to hear!

I didnt know Heartworm treatments were painful? Ive never know any dog to go thru one.... what causes the pain?

The injection given is supposedly very painful as it has to be given under the muscle tissues. Also the actual component of the injection is painful as well. Some dogs (not all) have been known to abcess in at the injection spot.
After the treatment is given, the dog may have difficulty breathing, may go into shock, etc.

Dang! I see why its so important to treat them from the begining so you dont have to put them thru that... thanks for the info!

That's good news, Ivy! Just keep her quiet for awhile and she'll be fine, now.

As it turns out, as of early this week, Sonja (my foster) is heartworm free!!! She made it through this long and boring treatment with flying colours. I spoke to the vet and starting on the 2nd of November, I can start to increase her exercise levels.....meaning very soon I can play fetch with her again. Just in case any of you don't know, Sonja lives for a long game of fetch with her beloved kong. She will begin to join the rest of the pack for our long walks too.

I am so excited for Sonja.
