Okay so I have a French mastiff, which harness is best for training to not pull? I happen to like the ones that go on the snout to redirect the head but with this breed is there a type of harness for him like that? If so what's it called?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Harnesses encourage pulling. It's best to use a neck collar. For Titan, I use a neck collar and harness so I have better control. I have trained him not to pull with the harness. The pup can be trained not to pull but it is a long tedious process.
Notice this collar is wore around a very sensitive area, so don't pull hard. Know how to apply pressure and release. Also you cannot throw a no-pull harness on a dog that doesn't know how to walk on a loose leash. You have to train the dog to get to the point where you can put a harness on and still retain the same skills. There is a front clip harness called the ez walk harness and there are other versions out there. The leash is attached to the front hole so when dog pulls you can just pull him or lead him to towards the direction you want him to go. I ordered an xl for my dog and it was a horrible fit for him, so I don't recommend it.
There are harnesses made to keep them from pulling. Although, mine don't pull, I have these. I love the way they are made and the two clasp, one piece lead, too. https://www.mekuti.co.uk/harness_shop.htm
I used a head halter for Kryten (EM) in the past. Unfortunately it no longer fits since his head has started to take on more adult proportions. I can't remember the actual dimensions but the extra large was fairly big. Kryten has just decided that the is going to have a huge head, now if only his brain would grow to fit it.
I use a Freedom Harness on Ella. It looks very like what Rugers-Kris uses, including having a two ended leash that can hook to both the back and front. If you really like head halters, maybe give the Infinity a try. It's a very simple design. Easy to put on and to adjust, and it has a safety tab that attaches to their collar. I've used it successfully on Boxers - not all of them, the ones with super squished faces it was best to choose something different. Regular squished faces worked fine. Freedom Harness Infinity Head Collar - Katrina does nice leather work too. All handmade in the US.
I purchased the No Pull Harness from Dean & Tyler. I really liked it. Nothing goes on her face. When she pulls, it turns her toward me. We don't even have to use it anymore! http://www.dtdogcollars.com/product-p/dthunvplus.htm
