Hey everyone!
We are going to start feeding raw this week, we are buy from rawfeedingmiami.com.

I have a question about how y'all feed so it doesn't make a mess. What do y'all do to limit the mess in the kitchen when the dogs are eating? Do you put anything down or does your dog just eat the food while it's in the bowl?

Thanks everyone!

I find feeding in their cages with no bedding contains the mess best. Easily wiped up when they are finished. Outside is good when it's nice out but I am more comfortable in the cages due to feeding multiple dogs of different sizes. Some eat quicker than others and it keeps everyone from standing over one another. You have some lucky pups! They will thank you:)

Two adult dogs eat outside weather permitting, in the kitchen & mudroom if not. They respect each other's space so no issues. They also lick the floors clean LOL. Swiffer takes care of the rest.

Pup eats in his crate, I take his blanket out first and spritz the tray with Clorox clean-up spray afterwards.

I have found that mine are not messy with their food at all. I feed in a pie pan. It has a rim around it, keeps any blood in the pan. I also put a towel under it. Every 3 or 4 days I wash the towels.

I plan to feed in crates to contain the mess. And as said before, then just sanitize the bottom.

I feed in a large stainless steel bowl- for the most part it's an easy clean up, as he eats from there. Just an occasional blood/tripe smear to wipe off the wall. And I use a vinegar and water spray for that.

Weather permitting our EM eats outside - he plays with his food if we aren't holding it to slow him down. Very messy eater. Our other 2 are very neat eaters and the food stays in their bowls. We do feed in different rooms because our Chi thinks all food should be hers and has snapped at the others even though she has no teeth and couldn't eat their food with real bones! (her bones get pulverized with a meat mallet.)

When we can't feed outside we put a large towel down for our EM. Easier to wash it than mop the floors for us.

My local butcher sells saw scraps which is mostly bone shavings with some fat and grizzle. Has the consistency of a mushed up ground meat.
And yeah, my 12# mutt has no issue taking from the bigger pups! And they usually get out of her way Lol

I'll have to talk to our butcher and see if he'd be willing to do that - although pounding chicken bones is good frustration release. :p

Denna eats her meals out of her regular bowl (SS bowls on a raised feeder)... she often takes the big bony pieces out and drops them on the floor so she can slurp up the softer pieces first. I put down a piece of carpet protector to protect the floors - easy to wipe down when needed (Denna licks it clean most days, so I don't wash it very often).

She did need a few reminders when she first started, that food was NOT to be removed from the "place met" that was under her dish. She's very good about staying at her dish, now.

I bought her carpet protector (runner size) from the office supply store - a roll of the plastic stuff with nubs on the backside - then cut a piece to fit her dinner station. I thought about using one of the gel floor mats... but the protector was way cheaper (and could be cut to fit).

OH, the other thing... Denna does SLURP her food with gusto, so she splatters the nearest wall with juices and goo... I've put a plastic box lid behind her dishes, to capture the goo and keep it off the wall and out of the electric outlet that is perfectly placed near her dish.

Thank you everyone for your responses! We are feeding Titan in his crate for now and he seems to be clean with the food for the most part. He is loving the new raw. He is only on his 2nd day of it and we are starting slow. On the first day we gave him 1.5lbs of chicken backs. The 2nd day today, we gave him 2.5lbs of chicken leg quarters. Tomorrow we will be giving him his full amount of 3lbs of food!
