Starting to get worried about our english mastiff

We've had Zeus now for about 10 weeks... He's 19 weeks tomm and our concern is how underweight he is....

He had a bad outbreak of roundworms because our stupid EX vet neglected to de worm him for no apparent reason...we believe we caught it early though ( this all happened last weekish)

My concerns is that he's only around 45lbs right now at 19 weeks... I've been searching all around after my fiancé said he was looking thin, and in every thread I see about oem age and sizes Zeus is WAY below what everyone elses mastiffs are at... Should I be seriously concerned? Do you all think the round worms may have affected him worse than we originally thought?

His body weight looks fine to me, Id rather have them leaner than chunky. Do you know how big his parents are?

My daisy is not much chunkier than your boy but she has alot of bone and is around 60lbs and 18 weeks, her chest is also deeper than your boys (not sure if this in anything to worry about i will have to ask in health section lol)

He looks lovley dont panic Daisys mum was 170 and dad around 190 but i dont think she will get to this size although she is my first EM so am a bit unsure

Is better for them to be leaner longer IMO.
Is way better for their health, growth and joints. He will get to his genetically predetermined size, how long it takes it takes.
All lines have different growth rates and these dogs take until 3 to finish. He looks healthy and good to me, mind you I don't have a EM, but I keep my CC pup on the leaner side. Don't worry about what other dogs weigh, he will catch up :)

Thanks for the replies everyone, I just got a little worried after seeing everyone elses dogs size at that age... I just want the best for Zeus and for him to be on the right track...

His dad weighed about 220lbs and his mom was around 180ish I believe

He looks fine IMO, EM growth patterns are not a precise science. I wouldn't let him get much slimmer but neither does he need to gain too much weight.

My EM is 2 yr old and he around 220, but when he was a pup he was all legs and tail. He was heavier than he looked. I really can't tell from the pics but he looked a lot I my did at that age.

He looks good to me and taste of the wild pacific stream is a great food its what i feed my Male EM he is 28 weeks and about 100 pounds nice and lean and long. All dogs grow different but they all get to there full size eventually. The slower the better.

He is a handsome boy!!! And btw totw is awesome! All my dogs love it and always eat all there food! If I dont watch my em he eats the other dogs food. You would think 3 1/2 cups twice a day would be enough lol

Thanks guys he's seems to have fully recovered from those nasty round worms and is doing well now, he went from 45 lbs last week to 54 lbs today so he seems to be recovering quickly, were just happy that he's healthy and happy. His teething seems to be kicking into full gear also , he's been biting and nibbling at us and everything he can this past week

Once you conquer the worms and the digestive stuff, your pup will become what he is destined to become. It is all about his genetics.

6 cups a day seems right for now. If he is pooping well and seems hungrier, you can up it a bit.

My guy ate about 10 cups from 6 months to 1.5 years. He has been eating 7 cups from 1.5 to 5 years at present. He is a lean 190lbs and could weigh no more without being fat. He can hike 10 miles with me as well.

Don't get caught up on size, but study the standard and make sure your guy is growing into a proper Mastiff.

Glad to see another Zeus pup! lol I've met so many mastiff owners who have also named their dogs Zeus. You pup looks great. My husband and I went through the same thing with our EM. We actually had to do 3 rounds of worm treatment because we just could not get rid of them. At 16 weeks, he was 47 lbs, so there isn't too much of a difference between weight of our pop and yours. We were concerned about Zeus' weight but our vet has reassured us (several times) that he's completely healthy and it's better for them to be lean now while they're still growing because it's easier on their bones. Zeus is now 14 months and roughly 160 lbs. I've been told by other mastiff owners that he'll continue to look lean until he's about 2.5-3 years old, then he'll starting filling out.

As for the chewing, these rubber toys work great for our mastiff: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4316563&lmdn=Dog+Toys
