Forgive my ignorance; I live with 4 bullmastiffs that are natural born slugs. I have a friend who has worked in French Ring, but I know very little about defense sports. Can you please explain?

Thanks BlackShadow. I also looked @ some Youtube videos. All I can say is WOW! Congratulations, Steel Town. Post some vids or pics; I'd love to see your dog @ work.

Awesome! Mondio's my favorite ring sport! I wish there was a club in the Portland area :( One of the FEW things I actually miss about living in Minnesota!

I know... Mals in ring sport almost seems like cheating lol. I have met a Presa, a CC, and many Dobes training in ring sports though :) A lot of Mastiffs just don't have enough drive to excel in them...

Are there any sports geared more towards mastiffs? Besides weight pull?

Maybe cart pulling, or just obedience. I know a BM breeder that does agility but I doubt they really excel there lol, and I'd worry about stressing the joints... I don't know, if you can think of something let me know!

CC's are pretty versatile, but I think the size and lack of drive in a lot of today's mastiff breeds keeps them from doing really well in most dog sports.

I've noticed this... Branka is really smart, not SUPER motivated by anything, but she does like to please more or less... my Doberman on the other hand is also really smart but he LIVES to please. My Beagle/Basset can be smart if there's food in it for her, but she couldn't care less if you were happy with her or mad!

I think that's a huge factor in how successful a dog can be in dogs sports... like to please vs LIVE to please.

I agree. However I also factor dog personalities, but I don't expect mastiffs to have the same drive as herders.

LOL, I'm still new to the world of dog sports myself I'd like to see a sport designed with them in mind but alas. Vice versa if you find something let me know. :) I want to do some advanced OB with Thor and my new pup when it arrives. Guess that will do for now.....

Treiball might be fun, and they would have an advantage with their size. But they'd still have to go up against the herders. I want to get Ruby into Rally if I can ever get my schedule at worked locked in. They don't have to be fast, just obedient.

Thanks Ruby, I'll do some more research on it. He knows find football and stuffie ( stuffed animal) but that was about as far as I got. Not his fault though lol.
