Hello, I am a little worried, out of nowhere Odin had a sudden discoloration of his nose. Pics are posted below; has anyone seen or know what this is?????? I hope it's nothing serious! :(

Could it be a scar from some play time? Might try olive oil or coconut oil for a few days. Is all his other pigments black or does he have some pink like on the belly? Sometimes the skin just changes as they mature.

I have a 8 month old EM who had this same issue but his was white. He was in the tub for bath time and I took a warm wash rag over it and it came right off!

Musicdeb, yeah but it's not really red or irritated, when you look at it up close it looks like someone rubbed his color off on the one side of his nose.

DMikeM, i tried coconut oil and olive oil but he keeps liking it off, lol......... I have not noticed any other spots or light pigment. I will be happy if it was just a change in pigment and nothing to cause pain or issues.

Pax2014, I tried washing it off and it did not work, I will try to take some better pics of it.
Thanks for the suggestions!!!

The oil is still helpful if he licks it off. Just apply it a couple times a day. It also could be due to allergy or a rash of some sort.

DMike, I have been putting the coconut oil on him and I will continue to apply it; he really likes it :)

Boccolini, I hope it is not discoid lupus, I am going to call his vet tomorrow to get an appointment and have it looked at.

Looks like he may have rubbed it against something. My Siberian Husky (RIP Keemo) used to try to bury his food in the kitchen floor and he would get red on his nose, sometimes to the point it would bleed.

I hope he just rubbed it on something but the more I research it the more I think it's discoid lupus. My heart is breaking and I'm freaking out, I don't want him to have lupus and I can't get him in to see the doctor until the end of the month :( Does anyone have any experience with lupus????????? He is only 7 months old how can he develop a disease like this!!! What should I do??

First, I would breathe because you haven't even seen a vet. You have to remember that what you find in your research on the internet can be scary but not always true. Go to a vet and find out what the diagnosis may be, tell the vet what you found in your research after he has examined the pup.

MusicDeb's right, using the internet to diagnose something like this is a really good way to stress yourself out without getting anywhere.

Putting some sunscreen on his nose, especially the discolored spot, probly isn't a bad idea, Petsmart, Amazon, and Drs Foster & Smith all carry a petsafe one. And I'd continue to use coconut oil on his nose since its likely to help.

But unless it spreads, or he starts showing other symptoms of Lupus, don't freak out, you'll make it harder on him by doing so!

Discoid lupus is not the same as systemic lupus. It mainly affects the nose and sometimes the skin around the eyes.

It doesn't cause a bunch of other problems.

Is he rubbing that area when he chews on toys? (Maybe a large toy?) Our EM "rubbed off" the color on his upper lip once. When we took toys away for awhile it turned black again after 1-2 weeks. If you're nervous it doesn't hurt to have a quick vet check.

It is possible he rubbed it off with one of his toys or his chews, he has an appointment with his vet in a week so we will see.
