I have a 5 month old male bullmastiff puppy. I was wondering if anyone knew if thats to old for me to be able to tape and correct one of his ears. His ear is not falling to the side and instead is rolling back.
Here are a few links to taping and massaging the natural eared boxer. Same idea no matter the breed as the ear set is similar. Is he teething? The ears to absolutely crazy things when they are teething. Taping and massaging are a good idea even if it is just teething. Hope the links help. We'd love to see pictures.
I had some problems with the links showing up. If they aren't clickable, you can copy and paste.
I taped my last Rottweiler's ears somewhere between four and five months because they were distressingly going flyaway. Just be aware that ears can go naturally nuts during that age because they are teething and calcium resources are being appropriated all over the place - given a good diet, they will probably correct.
I don't know whether the taping helped my dog at all or they would have ended up perfect anyway (they did) but it didn't hurt; he didn't care about the process at all and I used electrical tape which didn't fall off.
Thanks for the responses. He is definitely teething and I did tape his ears for a bit and it did seem to work, but I went away on vacation for some time and when i came back his ear was rolling back again. I will try to tape the ear again and see if it works. Was just curious to know if it was to late to correct his ear at 5 months.
