Tell me about your mastiff's harness please

Oh I didn't realize you had ordered form them o_O

Should I steer clear?

I originally ordered Arty's muzzle from them, ordered the wrong size (my fault), and getting them to RESPOND to any of my emails so I could get the wrong one returned and the right one ordered turned into an example of how NOT to treat your customers. I ended up finally returning the muzzle and getting it elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, the muzzle was well made and a very nice piece of work, and the original order arrived very quickly. The rest of the process sucked massively.....

Thanks for the heads up, that's all I needed. I do like their harnesses but I have no use for one, other than for Mason possibly weight pulling.

I can point you to several places that carry mastiff sized (or will make mastiff sized) carting and weight pull harnesses if you decide you want one!

Ruth, will he not pull with just a back clip/handle (cause he pulled weight before) or do you just want an "oh shit" handle and don't want to try and grab the collar?

Kris do you use that harness? I use the easy walk harness and she is great now except if she see her favorite thing in the world a dog (everyone is friend and has to get a puppy bow etc)! We are getting better at the nevermind (at about 15-20 feet away we can almost totally nevermind now!) but sometimes idiots will have their dog off leash and it will run up to use etc., and she isn't good enough at the nevermind in very close side walk range yet. I was thinking of trying the harness that you recommended as of right now I use the easy walk and a really short leash on her collar for "oh shit moments", however, it makes it a little awkward at times to walk. The easy walk stops her from pulling but if she gets lunge happy because of excitement the second leash is needed. The one you posted as a double clip leash on it so is that all you use? Do you clip on to his collar? Does he even wear one? Sorry for the hijack. When I walk her with just the one leash she seems way more relaxed but I also have less control if there is a "oh shit" moment which is few but still.

Was Apollo acting up because of your inlaws dog? Or just felt like being goofy that day?

I do use that harness everyday for walks and I really like it. I used to use an easy walk harness but it is very awkard and no matter how I tightened/loosened it, it seem not "right". Also, if they change sides, you have to kinda fix the leash. Ruger wears his collar on walks because his identification is on them but the leash that comes with the harness clips to the front of the harness and to the back. It is not at all awkward and fits great. I will be getting Magnum one when he gets older, for sure.

I mostly just want an "oh shit" handle lol. Though the ability to front clip a lead would be cool. Trying to grab his collar is futile, it hids in his ruff really well, and though his ruff actually makes a decent handle in a hurry its hard to grab when he's already halfway past me. But yes, in general being attached to a harness on him is a signal to pull, which is why I've not used one on him since we did weight pull.

He wanted to pester my inlaws dog. They have an elderly chow chow. She wasn't overly fond of him even before her health started failing, and he's ALWAYS thought that pestering her into growling insanity was THE BEST FUN EVER *rolls eyes* I thought we'd convinced him that was a bad idea, but its been several months since the last time we brought him over and he completely reverted to total goofy nutcase-ness MUST PESTER THEO!!!!! insanity.

I ordered it Kris! It will probably take a little to get here from UK but I can't wait. She is between the Large and XL size for now but I got the XL so I hope it won't be too big as she still has growing to do (8.5 months but I did measure). Yes, I know what you mean about the easy walk...its like something doesn't fit exactly right or something (maybe because its a large size but her chest is long but not wide yet as she is a pup). The change sides problem drives me nuts too...the dog must think I hate my right side at this point lol. I will have the collar still on for ID too but I hope to hold one leash now instead of 2 different length etc.

My husband laughs at me because he has more weight and can really just hold her on the flat at this point but she is getting closer to my weight and it wont be long now. She is usually very good and is getting better daily but I do not want to go face surfing one day especially when the snow comes because she loves something! Or now that it gets dark earlier (she is way more guardy at night), just wanna be prepared.

I think you will really like that harness. One thing I have figured out is if these big ones want to go, size doesn't matter as they are definitely big enough to take a grown man down and he is not even finsihed growing yet! :) I wanted a 2 clip harness/leash for the "What if", ya know? If his leash broke loose or something, it could be ugly, this gives me the second clip that just makes me feel better. He walks on a leash and flat ollar just fine but I feel more capable with this. :)

Yep, even though she won't be nearly as big as Ruger as she is a TM (she is 85-90ish now), I know she could take him down one day maybe even now if she really felt a threat etc. So far its her happy excitement...we have never seen her really concerned on a walk, she does look but (she is a more..I love my yard and here is where I get very concerned type of girl) but it still makes me feel like you say "more capable" of dealing with those far and few moments. I am guessing when she is done she will be between 120-140 (probably 120).

She has done puppy classes 2 rounds and is now in basic class (unless heat interrupts it). Plus I try and practice every week the never mind during a play date between a small group of us.
its funny if she is surrounded by dogs like at wolfstock she doesn't go all hyper cause they were everywhere and she isn't trying to get to them...its the last few steps she is still learning how to do calmly if we are approaching a dog.

I see someone posted a link to the harness made by Bold Lead Designs. I just wanted to say that I've ordered from Katrina at BLD before and been very pleased with the service and quality of the products. They're a small US based company and everything is handcrafted, at least to my knowledge. I've not ordered a harness, but if I needed one I wouldn't hesitate to order from them.
