  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

The Breeder search is on! Looking to own by Spring.

I've been checking out breeders, but it seems quite a few are either just breeding for size or turn out to be unscrupulous BYBs, or breeding 'hard' dogs that would require a hardass alpha 24/7.

I had a mastiff mix before who I suspect was part presa, since all the pres/pit mixes I've seen look like his twin, and I never had to be a harcore alpha with him, though I didn't take no for an answer. Example: I got him at about 17 months old, and the first three weeks I had him I had to pick him up and put him in the crate before he finally gave in an thereafter would go in at the 'bedtime' command. :p After that training was easy, though he did test me a few times. Then he was a big puppy. ;)

It's hard to tell who's really producing good presas. Anyone here have any experience with a Canadian breeder? I'd rather not have to go home to the US to get a good one.

There are a lot of nonsense breeders here in Canada too, but only two I would go to (did try to go to, but neither had a litter at the time I was looking); Midgard Kennels and Red Rock Kennels (Google 'em for the links :) )

Hm, those two seem to be cooking up some nice looking dogs. There's another called Canario god kennels whose dogs look pretty good... they even had a shot of one of their adults sitting off-leash on a busy sidewalk. Gonna start making my inquiries :)

Wifey wants an AB female, but that'll have to be her dog. Presa has won me over from the pitbull camp ;)

Bravo has produced some champions (Nay-na and Sando-Can are remarkable), and Beau's videos are very informative, but his pups are $7300 CAD... Conquistador K-9 has actually used some of Bravo's dogs in their own breeding program, and they have an impressive puppy training program. Basically you get the pup at 12 weeks, with basic obedience, crate training, an evaluation of the pup's apparent potential, and (according to their site) a fair amount of socialization already done... though they're pricey too, $4500 US (about $6k Canadian).

If my next book hits the best-seller list, I'll seriously consider Bravo or Conquistador. Otherwise, I'm probably setting $3k as my limit and just tell the pup he cost more to boost his self-esteem :lolbangtable:
