  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

This forum has gone to crap!

Sorry Bob but I work for the world 2nd largest provider. Know several people that I work with/for that could create and correct the issues. I know of 3 other forums that have gone through similar issues, and those took days/weeks to fix, this has been months.
It is easier when:
A. You actually own the server that you need to fix. When the server us owned by the ISP and they make their income from it, they may not give you root access and carte blanche. Not all (read that any) ISPs are willing to let you make any changes outside of your docroot or perhaps your own homedir.
B. You have the full workday to get fixing the problem. Not start to affect repairs at 10 PM after your workday is done, and the kids are fed and in bed.
C. You built the server in the first place and don't have to do discovery in the first place to understand what is on it, and how the server was built. Which version of header files were used for a build, etc. And can even take the entire server down for a reboot or restart a single service. Some ISPs are not helpful at all if your SW needs a different version of a package to support your app. They don't care if you are stuck. They will tell you to find forum SW (in this case) that does work with their stuff.
D. You are competent to work at this level. Whin I hear that someone wants to RTFM for the forum SW and fix things by goosing a config at the script level, I'm thinking I'm hearing from a neophyte script kiddie. If you have to recompile Apache Server SW to get virtual hosts to work, (an example only) you are totally beyond massaging the apache.conf files. You think a business will let someone renting domain space on their server will let them do this kind of thing? That's a load of crap.
E. Then there is the possibility that this is a matter of dragging of feet. Who knows besides the admins?

First and foremost, I'm sorry for the inconveniences. Please keep in mind that I have three broken forums, all that cost money to upgrade.

I have the ads on here to generate an income, and the first of the three, PBC is almost ready to roll out on the ZenForo platform. For starters, the license is $140 for a license, then we have to pay for all the plug ins. And the server.

If someone is truly interested in helping with the set up, PM DeputyDog, he's the tech guy.

Again, I apologize, but it takes a small amount of cash, and I can only use the resources I have.

There are manuals and helps forums for this version of forum software. It's just plain laziness to allow this to go on like this. Are the Pitbull forums this crippled?

Yes they are. Thank you for your interest.

Guys!!! Take a breath!! Everyone back to your neutral corners! We know it's been a long time since things worked here. The server move had to be initiated with little planning and lots of things broke. That's old news I know. The fresh news is that the replacement to this tired and broken forum has moved from the planning phase and is in construction. I really didn't want to share this info just just yet. I was planning a more grandiose announcement but here I am responding to member concerns about how crappy this forum is. Mastiff forum is not crappy ... it's broken. All of you are the family that make this community special. Not withstanding some significant hurdles to enjoying the experience. What is broken here cannot be fixed by reading a manual. We know what is broken and have decided not to invest in repairing it but rather save up and replace it. We are not lazy. We are practical. There are no "features" that can simply be enabled and will magically begin working. The database is corrupted. The interface to make certain things happen is simply inaccessible. DMike, you say that it's simply not that hard. Ok ... We are running Vb 4.1.5 on this forum. This release is not compatible with the php and sql versions installed on our server. This is a basic incompatibility. Now, our new forum software XenForo, requires the latest releases of sql and php to run. We are prepared for the future of Mastiff forum. We cannot plan for the future and hold on to the past. Please be patient a little longer. It will be worth the wait.

I never saw any posts regarding this failure in the DB or that it was not compatible with the server software. Maybe this info was posted and I skipped over it if so my apologies. If not it would have been great to let the members know why things were not, are not working. Here is hoping for a speedy recovery.

I did touch on some points in the "testing" thread in this Feedback forum. I just didn't offer many technical details. Most times it just puts people to sleep! Anyway, I thank you again for your patience. I think you and the community will be pleasantly surprised.

Lol... I know I shouldn't respond to this, but it's quite funny. :D

Most of the issues with the irreparable, broken forum, have been fixed. I haven't got around to everything yet, but if someone finds an issue, please report it and I'll get to it as soon as possible.

When you do a google search for mastiff forum, this forum comes up as the first link, however when you click on it, it takes you somewhere else, what is that about?

I thought I noticed that yesterday... It did redirect me the first time I just tried, but it redirected a second time before I could get the first URL and it isn't redirecting when I try now. Can someone copy and paste the first URL it redirects to if you catch it?

I am noticing that some functionality is starting to return. I haven't tested much yet but I was able to do a new paragraph without using HTML tags for one.

Image test.

Well that seems to work now too.
