Tough dog toys

Cow hooves and deer antlers. Be warned though, the hooves smell horrible when chewed and it is possible to eventually chew small bits off although this hasn't seemed to hurt Oscar yet (other than sometimes coughing the bits back up later). Antlers are great and Oscar hasn't managed to break one yet plus they're nutritious :)

Cow hooves reek but Moo loves them too! Funny niether one of mine liked antlers. Bear I can understand as he has a soft mouth but even Mooshi, chewer supreme didnt bother with them

I ordered her some nylabones today and a couple other toys. I needed to get her a ID tag anyway so I got that. I haven't been able to find any durable tubes yet to make a toy and she liked the kong but only until she got the stuff all licked out which took all of 5 minutes. Antlers are good what about the other bones from deer? :/ I assume they are like most other animal bones or no?

Yah, treat them like you would other raw bones. Don't buy cooked, and I'd avoid smoked deer bones unless they were cold smoked.

I was just thinking it's deer season no one does anything with the bones from the deer might as well put them to use? Do you clean them or anything since I don't feed raw or just get as much gunk off them and then give it to them?

Just give them, though since you don't feed raw they may cause digestive upset. But yes, if you can get bones go for it. And if anyone freaks at you, canines are immune to CWD......

I'm not sure about the leg bones. It's not a good idea to give dogs weight-bearing bones. They are very hard and strong which can break dog's teeth.

Deer legs are pretty spindly. The hips/thighs might be to thick, but deer legs aren't likely to be an issue.

No problem. Its one of those things. In general, the larger the animal the harder the leg bones, the more likely they are to cause problems. And I'll admit it depends on the deer in question too.

I find rope is the best toy ,its cheap and has many ways to use.I take a 3-4 foot piece ,tie it to a rubber bungee cord and attach it to a dog run or tree.Odin will play with it for hours!

My Neo's love the antlers!! And they last forever, I had to get an old tire for an EM that I boarded in my kennel, it was a car tire and he
would pick that thing up and carry it like a lifesaver!! Him and his sister would play tug with it.

A better choice in dog chew toys are natural toys made of safe, organic materials, or hard rubber or nylon toys that won't break or shred. However, be aware that even a hard chew toy can break under constant chewing.

I have this squishy dog ball ("luna") from Planet Dog that not only is bouncy, but huge. But because it's softer- but highly indestructable!- even dogs smaller than mastiffs can pick it up. I bring this to the park and dogs go nuts over it. It's bouncy, so a dog can entertain themselves chasing and biting it. It's made of a special safe silicone that has yet to show even a mark or bite or tear...amazing product. Oh, and the luna ball glows in the dark, too. :)

So far, the best ball/toy ever I have found. :)

My old boxer was a chewer. Started with the kinda clear nylabomes after he started to chew bites off we moved him to the harder white nylabomes and also one called a Galileo same kinda very hard nylon. He would gnaw on them all the time. When he got them small enough to fit in his mouth(like his bubble gym) we would replace them. But I think it would be like a year prob. But he had the whitest teeth and fresh breath until the end. Never once in 11.5 years did he ever have bad teeth gums or breathe

Hagrid loves his Jolly Ball. Hasn't killed it yet. He carries it around by the handle. LOL.

We also give smoked deer bones. Sometimes we give large cow backbones with peanut butter smeared inside. Messy, but fun.

Agree with the smelly hooves. Not an inside treat.

Hanna loves rawhide, and can make short work of it.

I bought one of these: http://www.countrymax.com/Pogo-Plush-Beaver-Large on Friday. So far the only damage is that its missing an ear. I'm highly impressed. Arty KILLS toys. It doesn't matter what it is, or how tough its supposed to be. Once I give it to him its DEAD. Usually in a very short span of time (a span of time counted by minutes). Yes Arty is only 32lbs. But he has a jaw strength of a dog quite a bit bigger. But this one's still with us with minimal damage. I'll be picking up a couple more (and yes he HAS played with it!).

I make my own stuff, here is a tuff Cuzz toy I wrapped in a Denim pant leg and tied with paracord. Jade loves this and has had it for about a month now.

Here is a rope toy, just wrapped rope around a broom stick, great for teething

I have also just taken climbing rope and tied knots in the ends or a monkey fist on one end with a loop handle and that's a toy that cost about 2 bucks that lasts for months.

Oh another one that we had that lasted for a long time and was fun was these "unstuffed" animals with squeakers in them. I think it was from Walmart He normally shredded stuffies in seconds. This dead raccoon lasted the summer befor he got the squeaker out and then still lasted as a play/chew toy
