tplo surgery BEWARE

I had posted about 6 weeks ago about our mastiff having surgery. We had the surgery done the aftercare is very involved so be prepared. The left rear leg was done started to heal then a set back of an infection put the process back a week.
At the 5th week River had a very hard time getting up. We were told that the right leg had a 50% chance of going within a year . It only took 5 weeks for this to happen the vet never x rayed the right leg to codify this.

My advise is to have both legs evaluated before making decision one leg can not heal without a strong leg he is 9 years old we spent around $7000.00.

I cant put him down but will now build him a wheel chair. If anyone has purchased a good chair that works well please let me know.
In closing this operation will only succeed if the other legs can support your dog during the 16 week healing process.

Ouch.
This breaks my heart, and hurts my brain, since Denna has one bad leg, and I'm concerned the "good" leg is now being over-stressed.

Do you have a "help 'em up harness"?
How are you getting around now?

I posted on your other post about the wheelchair. Please keep us posted on how it goes! I know you're not the only one to ever have to go through this, unfortunately. :(

Give your big lug a hug for me.

It was the toughest descision I ever made we put River to rest he looked at us and said it was time to go GOOD luck with your pal.

I met another owner who went the same route and his dog other leg went 2 weeks after surgery
