Trimming Fila pups nails

Hello,

I have a 7 month uneutered male Fila. When I even grab his paws he retracts them and is displeased/scared. He also has a slight ear infection, I tried administering solution but he gets scared and defensive. Anyone with similar experiences and advice?

Thank you,

John

He sounds like he needs some desensitization and counter conditioning work. Here's are vids to start. Don't move on until the pup is comfortable in each stage. Take your time and use very high rewards, maybe food that's specific for nail trimming.

Same thing with the ears. Start with handling, but since he has an ear infection - it won't be that easy. Here are some older threads on ear cleaning.

I would also recommend using file (we got the big metal one, as there was no nail file that is hard enough for her strong nails). Somehow they just tolerate filing more than trimming :)
