Vet Recommendation for Denver Metro

KarenZ

Member
I have a 11 week old English Mastiff which I'm looking for a new vet for. My old vet is great, but I'd really like one who specializes in larger breeds, hopefully English Mastiffs. She's a very healthy, happy puppy who loves everyone she meets.

I live in the Denver area - west of town, and would appreciate any recommendation you might have.

Thank you!

I use Alpine Animal Hospital off of Kipling and Bowles. My vet is kind of old school train of thought but very informative and doesn't push treatment if none is needed, everyone at the office is super nice and calm. Another mastiff owner I know uses Mesa Vet Hospital off I70. How old is your EM?? Mine is 7 months!

Thank you for the info! I'll definately be calling them!

My "Grazia" turned 12 weeks old yesterday. She's apricot, and is truly a bundle of joy. I haven't had a puppy in 7 years, so I'm being reminded of all that goes with it. :) How much does your Venti weigh at 7 months? It seems like Grazia grows almost every hour! What are you feeding Venti? I have Grazia (and my 2 rotties) on a raw diet.

Thank you again!

She sounds very cute. LOL it's tough for a little bit, but it gets better! I too hadn't had a puppy in quite sometime before my Boston Terrier and my EM. My Venti weighs around 110-115 lbs now at 7 mths old. They do grow so fast don't they! I am currently feeding Fromm 4-star, BUT I really want to move over to raw, I just need some guidance on it. Sounds like you know what you are doing! Maybe I can get some tips from you sometime, especially since you are local! Thanks!!

Yes, I think the next few months are going to be interesting! From what I've read, she should be gaining approx 1 lb per day from now until about 6 - 7 months! I can't hardly imagine it. She's around 35 lbs now.

Going raw was one of the best things I've ever done for my dogs. Yes, it's a bit more expensive, and well worth it. I get their food at http://www.elkusa.com/. They are located in Del Norte (Colorado), which is about a 3 hour (but beautiful) drive. They also ship. I give mine the "dog food" variety, because it has the organ meat as well as a bit of ground bone. I prefer the buffalo or goat because one of mine has an allergy to the elk and venison. I mix a 1/2 - 3/4 cup of plain (not instant) uncooked oatmeal with each pound of meat. My goal is to prevent the ailments and diseases they are so prone to. (I recently lost my 4th dog to cancer.) For snacks, they get carrots, apples, broccoli stems, etc.

Thank you again Scot -- it's great to connect with someone local!

Karen,,
I've started my EM on the raw diet and so far so good. I'll check out elkusa...so far he's on raw whole chicken, raw ground beef, ground turkey and a little organ meat. I am trying to mix in some veggies into the organ meat mix to add more nutrients. Maybe we can chitchat about some more methods/advice when you have time since you are local. Let me know.
