"wave" around distractions

We never do tricks outside of the house other than basic obedience. Today I thought it was fun since I was working on stay on a bench so I decided to work "wave" at a distance. Ha, see how confused and stressed he was? I had to help him out and ask for an easy trick and then advance to the wave. After he was marked and rewarded with lots of treats, he was able to do "wave" on the second command (not on video).

I find when I work with the dogs anywhere else but the house they pay more attention and the work is more fun for them cause we are going outside. Also one of my biggest problems are mixing up commands so the stress is real lol. Great job!

He was so confused in the beginning, poor Hector. He's such a good boy. Nice job you guys. I mess my guys up by saying "okay" when I didn't mean to. That's always been my release word, but it's way too common in everyday language.

My dog will give up food to go on a walk so no doubt he loves his walks more than anything, but he is a highly anxious dog that stresses out easily and as seen here he doesn't generalize well.

You should post some videos, especially of your mastiffs. There is definitely a shortage of videos of mastiffs doing tricks. I get so bored of seeing border collies and german shepherd and malinois tricks.

Thanks! I think my release word for the next dog would be "break".

It breaks my heart to see him so confused and stressed out. I just want to reach out and give him a big old hug. He is so handsome and such a smarty dog.

Thanks! Oh don't worry about him. Him being able to work through the stress and do the command is what matters most. It helps with his coping skills and to a degree works on his focus on the task at hand.

What a sweetie!!! I just want to hug Hector. :)
Good job and finally getting that wave!!

Also a great video for showing people many of the stress signals that dogs give, too...
And how you help/make them work through it. :)
