  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

We lost another one. Dammit.

So Lucky the cat came in the house at about 10 days old. Her parents were feral. We were cutting back some weeds, & discovered a nest of newborn kittens. We left them there, but Momcat decided the little white one wasn't worth it, I guess. She laid there for over 24 hours when we brought her in. I was amazed that we were able to keep her alive; newborn kittens are kind of delicate.
Lucky had absolutely no cat manners, couldn't deal with other cats at all. She was always very comfortable around bullmastiffs, however, & kind of adopted their philosophy on life. Eat, poop, sleep. During her younger years, she drove us crazy, shooting out of nowhere to attack & swing on our braids & ponytails (both my housemate & I have very long hair). Bullmastiff tails were fun to ride, too. We had a fire a couple of years back; Lucky could not be found by us, or the fire department. She showed up 3 days later, covered in soot, but apparently healthy. We would laugh every time she wandered in the room with soot streaks all over her face from trying to wash it with dirty feet.
We had a game; I would hunch over, yell, "Come here!" and she would do that low crawl/run, just staying out of my reach. She also like to box, sitting up, slapping our hands.
Every night/morning when I would come home from work, Lucky would be waiting at the top of the stairs, trying to open my bedroom door. She would frequently hit the light switch, turning on the light for me. She would come in, rub my legs, get a chin scratch, then go to the door to go back out.
She died last week from feline leukemia. She probably was born with it, and spent 4 years being an obnoxious kitty who loved/hated everyone. It finally got her.
Even with 5 dogs in the house, it seems empty when I come home in the wee hours & no one turns on the light for me. I miss her.Lucky.jpgLucky1.jpgMisc. 006.jpgMisc. 005.jpg

I'm so sorry Ruby! I wish I had an original poem to share with you but I don't. What I do have is the beautiful poem that you posted when I lost Cane. I carry it in my heart.

An Irish Prayer

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.

So sorry for your loss Ruby. She sounded like quite the little imp...the turning on the light thing is too sweet.

Sorry to hear of the loss.
She gave you great memories
and you gave her 4 years
she would most likely not had without you.

God Bless in this time of sorrow.
