weight gain issues

I recently adopted a Presa Canario from a high-kill shelter in Atlanta, GA and they said she was fine besides an upper respiratory infection (they gave me meds for it and it cleared up). But she seems to be underweight. I feed her three times a day with dry food that has canned food mixed in it. She also pants a lot even though I have plenty of water available for her at all times. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to put some more weight on her and any idea why she could be panting so much?

Welcome! Has she been to see your vet? That would be the first thing I would do. I would definitely mention the panting and have a fecal done.

The vet in Atlanta said she was fine when I got her, but she also was not panting like this at first (she mainly does it at night). I'll take her to my vet up here where I live just to be sure. Thank you.

Do you have any idea how old she is? Vinny is teething and I noticed he pants at night a lot when he is uncomfortable.

Mine is constantly panting but it's because there is a bitch in heat and he can't help but be a hormonal wreck. I hope all turns out well for your pup and you get this pinned down quickly. :goodvibes:

She is around three years old is what I was told, but she very well may be younger. I personally think that she is closer to 1 1/2 to 2 years old.

... I posted on the other thread, too... is she in a crate at night? That might make her a little hot... a small fan might help, if that's what's doing it.
