  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

What do you recommend to help with shedding?

Kryten is my first short haired pet. I have numerous brushes for long haired animals and I bought one for a short haired dog but it doesn't seem to get any hair out. I have thought about either getting a furminator or having him brushed out but don't know 1) if they make one for short haired, large dogs. 2) if that might even work on him.

He is 7 months and the weather is starting to change so I think his shedding is a combination of losing his puppy coat and seasonal.

I use the regular dog brush with brush on one side and metal brush on the other. It works great for Titan.

Go to Superstore and get a shedding blade. Under $10 and works like a dream. My two love it and even when I think I have all the hair gone I can still pull more with it. Stonewall actually does the happy dance when it comes out. Silly boy :D

We use a shedding blade too. All our animals - especially the cat (DSH, but still a furry kitty) - have LOVED it. That includes a mutt with a thick shepherd undercoat (1.5" hairs), a dane/lab with minimum undercoat (0.5" hairs) and a bulldog/boxer with NO undercoat (0.25" hairs).

Denna's still getting used to the idea of being brushed, but this last time she finally stood still for it and seemed to enjoy it. :)
But, there's not much hair coming off of her, yet, either (she's 5 months old).

I also use a shedding blade or a steel curry comb, the comb is meant for our horses but our dogs love the way it feels. Its round with three coils. I think I paid about $6 for it. I use mostly horse brushes, combs, currys and blades on my other pets. They are less expensive and work better.

Apollo's coat is to long for a Furminator, especially his ruff *sigh*. Btw, they're WAY cheaper on Amazon.com than at Petco or Petsmart.....

Salmon fish oil worked WONDERS on my pup for shedding. Took a few weeks to notice a difference- but worth the wait!

I am with Atlas Mama.Salmon fish oil helps . You might also want to take a quick look at the pups food. Guys Chloe hardly ever sheds hair . she gets on our bed regularly to wrestle with me and i see a hair here and there. but never anything to say i need a comb for her.

Not a solution for seasonal shedding or puppy coat shedding though, but yes, if its a general shedding issue fish oil may help.
