What is the best dry food for my 3 month english mastiff puppy?

Hi everyone. I am new to the EM forum. We just bought a english mastiff puppy a month ago. The breeder was very clear to feed our puppy adult dog food. We are currently feeding him Solid Gold Large Breed Bison Timberwolf dog food. Our vet says he should be on a large breed puppy food. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE HELP...............

Listen to your breeder. Unfortunately many vets have little to no specific nutritional experience when giant breed dogs are concerned. As far as best brand opinions differ but you want a calcium/phosphorus ratio as close to 1:1 as you can get. Someone with more knowledge will explain better Im sure.

Yeah, I would listen to the breeder. The fact that so many vets carry and push Science Diet (a two star food for five star prices) causes them to lose a lot of credibility regarding nutrition with me.

Alot of people around here avoid foods with grains or chicken because many Mastiffs don't do well on them, but yours may be fine, so nothing wrong with trying a food with chicken and/or grains.

I've heard one of the most important things is to keep calcium below 1.6% and to try to have a calcium to phosphorus ratio of 1:1 to 1.2:1.

We've put our 9 1/2 week old on a grain free "all stages" food. Pure Vita. Curious how much others this age eat? Louis is eating about 1 - 1 1/2 cups 3 times a day.

Looking at the solid gold, the third ingredient is brown rice nor do they mention cal/phos content. For the price I would think you could get a better quality food. JMO, I would send a pm to Smart_Family who has done alot of research on nutrition she could tell you more.

Thank you guys for all the info!!! I will send Smart_family a pm to see what she thinks. Diesel is eating about that too maybe a little more. We had him to the vet this past week and he was 29lbs at 12wks. That's almost double what he weighed when we got him at 8wks old. I'm so glad I found this site!!! I was reading past posts and I am so glad I have a good resource on Mastiffs!!! :)
