Hi Everyone,
We will be bringing our puppy home the end of February at 9 weeks. I'm hoping to start buying things now. What size crate would be a good size? I was thinking the 48" or the 54"? Thanks.

we have the 54" for gypsy in the hope i will last her till she is full grown, we use it as her den not for crate potty training, if you are going to crate potty train you will need to shut of part of it till your puppy is potty trained, if just a den your puppy will look very small in it to start with,

We have the 54" and made it smaller by putting a cardboard box in it. Once the pup outgrew the smaller area, we changed the cardboard box to a smaller box. That way the larger crate was able to serve from puppyhood to adulthood. Hagrid no longer needed a crate after 6 months though.

I am picking up my new DDB in 8 weeks. Please advise what crate worked for you. I also have an English bulldog that is 9 years old (but is very intelligent therapy dog). I free feed her and she has a doggie door to a large terrace area. What recommendations can you all suggest for me for my new member of my family? I was advised to go with a Male since my current dog will get along better with the new dog , if opposite sex. Also, please advise on how long you had the dog in the crate for - related to house training. thank you again -

i have a 54 inch crate. i personally have the wire kind.. but i hate it.. plus, i suggest zip strapping all the seams if you do go for metal as brody plowed through the side of the crate one day... broke through like nothing... but now that its zip strapped he cant... or just save yourself the trouble and get a plastic one.

Edited to add: I just realised i said he CANT plow through the kennel now that it is zip strapped... LOL

on the chance that I may be opening myself up to the Karma Curse for saying that and I am likely to go home today to find he has busted through his crate now...all because i said he CANT do something.. I would like to change that statement to.....

But now that it is zip strapped, I have had better luck and he has not as of yet broken through the seams...hopefully he does not do it again...

one thing i have learned... is NEVER say your DDB CANT do something... LOL last time I said he cant... was when I said he cant jump off the deck its to high... well five min later he did... He jumped over the deck railing and fell two stories, got up and chased the neighbour into his house.... I will not make that mistake again... He CAN and I will not underestimate him ever again.
