Why little dogs outlive big dogs

Very interesting article, thank you for sharing!
This brings me to a question since I am fairly new to giant breed dogs. At what age does a giant breed become a senior? I know that senior care for my Yorkie is going to begin around 7-8 years old(give or take), but if giant breeds age faster at what point would you start getting them senior treatments such as diet changes, additional health care, exercise changes, etc?

I remember reading about a breed that has a very short lifespan (6-8 years). They said it was 2 years puppy, 2 years adult, 2 years senior. It wouldn't surprise me to start to see signs of age around 5-6 years in a mastiff.

I talked to this lady who bread great danes and she said they usually died around 6 years of age. :( My mastiff had white whiskers at 4yrs and died at 5 years from bone cancer:(. I thought for sure I would get at least 8 years. I fed him best I could , gave him vitamins and exercised and kept him comfortable as possible. Sucks the bigger they are the sooner they fall.
