So last few days coco (bullmastiff) has been very irritable with our staffie they both growl at each other but coco more so, also ziggy is showing his ass a lot lol demonstrated very briefly in the second video, any ideas? They both get a lot of exercise and attention is it maybe a phase for coco as shes 7 months or so now? Ps i do correct this behaviour just wanted to get some advice as to why shes/they are acting out and excuse the sock lol

This is ziggy 'annoying' her this is when she gets irritated by him and then either goes for him or barks etc

It looks like Coco may be guarding the toy. In the first video, I can't tell if Coco is trying to initiate play. It's hard to tell because different dog have different styles and signals. At 8 secs it might look like she wants to play, but it also looks like she went low to guard the toy. After she got a hold of the toy, she looked like she was guarding it.

In the next video, Coco is resource guarding the toy. In the beginning, it looks like Ziggy postures the way I see in my own dogs - some sort of excitement and he looks like he wanted to hump her.

At 7 secs, you can see Coco do the freeze and stare (you cannot see a stare, but I'm 100% sure there is a side glare and growl). At 8 secs, you can see Ziggy responds by a lip lick and moving away.

Are your dogs competitive over toys? Does one guard against the other? Ziggy carries himself pretty dominantly - not always a bad thing.

At the moment Coco - froze and stared - a fight could have broken out.

As always, you are spot on, in the first video i actually caught the tail end of what had happened in the bedroom where coco actually went for ziggy, coco is very possessive over anything it could be a piece of string and she would guard it with her life, which is why we dont leave toys out anymore,

Ziggy is very very placid when it comes to toys or anything else, he doesnt mind sharing, coco can even go up to his bowel while hes eating and he'll move away, but if he dared to go anywhere near hers she'll go for him,

Hes been trying to hump her yes, and she hates it, we're going to get him snipped in the next couple of weeks, its almost like she cant play with him anymore as she always ends up trying to fight him?

Okay well that explains more. He isn't trying to be dominant. He might be wanting to hump her because she might be coming into heat or he is getting aroused and excited by something Coco is doing.

She is clearly irritated with him and tries to get him to get away and when you add a toy in the picture, things definitely get a bit heated.

I would tell Ziggy to knock it off and either redirect him to something or some place.

you are right, we dont leave them alone at all anymore because coco is just so snappy and ziggy is winding her up, im glad its not just me as my husband thinks i overreact with them as theyre 'just playing'
