    Hello Boerboel and Bullmastiff Enthusiasts.

I am curious to know if Baby Charlie (aka Chuckle Bum) is growing the way he should.
I weighed him yesterday at exactly 12 weeks, and he comes in at a nice lean 32 lbs. Is this a normal weight for that age in a Boerboel/ Bullmastiff pup ?

I don't want to fatten him up, but don't want to starve him either.

He is on 3 meals a day (each meal 1 cup of Acana Large Breed Puppy) and 1 Vita Bone Cookie before bed time.

*I also add some other things to his meals....

    Different additions can be:
    Homemade chick/veg soup
    Cottage cheese
    Raw beef cubes
    Chopped raw spinach
    Scrambled whole egg (portion)
    Sardine (1)
    Cooked mixed veggies
A couple of drops of fish oil blend

For treats for good behavior he might get 1 or 2 pieces of his kibble, a tiny cube of cheese (pea size), or a very small piece of home made liver treats.

Opinions, comments, advice.... would be more than welcome. 20161104_120647_1478374456827.jpg

Hello and welcome. I fed mine boerboel 2 times a day from the start and he got used to it. I also fed acana but pacifica anyway large breed is also super food so i dont think its the food just his genetics not the same for everyone.

Thanks for the resonse and the welcome.

My two other dogs eat Acana Wild Prairie Adult, mixed with Acana Senior. Charlie, being a baby, is getting the Acana Large Breed Puppy.

I like Acana (same company as Orijin, but slightly lower protein and slightly less pricey), it's good quality food, and made right here in Alberta where I live.

Both of Charlie's parents were a good size.
Dad, (the Bull M) 130 lbs and lean. Mom, (the BB) a petite 120 lbs, after raising a litter of 13 puppies, but taller than Dad.

How old is your pup? and how are you enjoying him?

One thing I learnt with my EM is that there is no correct answer to your question. for example Kryten was 24 lbs at 11 weeks when I got him, another puppy his age (unrelated)as close to 40 lbs. Both were the correct weiget for them. All you can do is make sure that he is a good body condition and not be too concerned about the number on the scale as it also isn't a accurate predictor of adult size at this age. Those 2 puppies I mentioned Kryten is 200 lbs while the other is 150 lbs.
Keep them lean and healthy and let nature deal with specifics. Cute puppy.

Hi and thanks for the response :)

I guess I was just curious, if baby Charlie is approximately average on the scale compared to other kids his age. I want him growing slow and steady, not skinny, not fat.

Just noticed you're from Lethbridge, lol. My little Chuckle bum, hails from just outside of Lethbridge.

I think acana and orijen are the best foods especially orijen. Mine was also almost a year on orijen six fish so as he got bigger i switched him to acana its cheaper but also quality food. Mine isnt pup any more he is 3 years old now and you can see his pics in thread mark pics baby to now. They grow fast but mine isnt matured all the way so i still have some kind of 65 kg puppy :)

As Smokeycat stated it is all about body condition.
Keeping them fit and trim helps greatly with later issues, such as HD and ED.
Your pups final weight will be genetics, and he will be what he was met to be.
There is no making a dog bigger only fatter.

Your boy is very handsome :).
A 65 kg baby, hah haah. Does he still like to climb on your lap like a little puppy?

    Thanks for the response.

I'm not trying to make baby Charlie bigger than he was meant to be, lol.
I just wanted to know if he's growing normally, and according to schedule.

    He's a wonderful little boy :)

My Authentic Mizpah Boerboel Odi was 22 lbs at 11 weeks old. At 3 he is now 150/155 Lbs. The BM has a thicker bone mass than the BB so 1 week and 10 pounds different between the 2 sounds about normal.

    Very cute pup.

Sorry did not mean to imply you where trying to make him bigger.
Just that many worry about size, when it is all about body condition.

    No worries, lol.
I guess I was thinking along the lines of baby wellness checks, when you take babies into the clinic and they measure and weigh them, and mark it on a growth chart, to see if they're above, below, or just on track.

But I guess with these Monster Truck Pups, you can't really go by something like that.

I honestly don't care how big Charlie gets, as long as he is healthy and well adjusted and happy.
