Kangal is my first thought too. Unless you see the dog in person don't believe the photos, whether by photoshop or angle of illusion. BK folks like to do it too

Well Garzeful1 I told you those Kangals are tough dogs. BOZ Kangal is bigger than a normal one and a Malak I believe is the largest of this breed. I have seen pictures of that white one walking in the snow and I tell you it is huge and does look like a bear even then.

Ok I'll try.
Akabash all white Turkish Flock Guardian (polar Bear)
Akbash-Shepherd3.jpg

Kangal Dog most common Guardian must have black mask or muzzle. (This could be a BOZ)

As you can see the herders are not big men.

Kars dog or a Caucasian type dog.

The Konya is a regional Kangal seems to be a little smaller.

Malak The big one. Triangular head massive structure.
Malak-awesome-1.jpg

CAS/CAO Central Asian Shepherd / Central Asian Ovtcharka many colors but mostly white.

And the Russian Causasain Ovcharka

Lastly the BOZ Kangal dog. Mostly bread for fighting from what I am hearing but has been returned to flock guardian.

I think that covers them all.

so Akbash are considered Kangal dogs? We have a family friend with a pair of them. Crazy big dogs!

What does BOZ mean?

BOZ are a Kennel name from what I can gather. I think they have crossed the Kangal with the Akabash, the Malak and EM and some other Central Asian dogs to create a bigger more aggressive dog. I see a lot of negativity when I search for BOZ dogs and it looks like they promote the fight dog more than the LGD dog. I think a Turkish herder would have a fit if we called an Akabash a Kangal. The Kangal is said to be Kurdish and not Turkish. But being a Westerner I don't know the difference.

Yep, not quite as big, but they were all tagged which I thought was weird

Turkey has had a law in place for some hundred years or more to catch spay and release all strays on the street. There was a recent big uproar that they were going to recall the law and catch kill or reloacate the dogs to a remote camp. Turns out the remote camp had no caretakers and all dogs there resorted to cannabilism to survive. I think the law was reinstated and the dogs are fixed and released again.

How would you like to walk down the street with a Polar Bear on your leash?
