I've never really needed protecting as most folks stay far away. But one day my buddy found a golf club in the grass. Picked it up and swung it in the air

My story, We had DDB named Goliath. He was a big awesome boy. He passed away awhile ago.

Anyways someone broke into our home late at night while I was out of town for business. My daughter and wife were the only ones home. Goliath started growling, barking, biting at his Crate to get out. Luckily his crate is right outside the bedrooms upstairs. Well low and behold the intruders heard all his racket and mostly his deep bark were guessing and high tailed it out there. My wife let him out of the crate and he shot immediately downstairs. My wife and daughter stayed put upstairs until the police arrived. The funny thing was Goliath wouldn't even let the police into our house to check until my wife came downstairs. He was just sitting at the backdoor were the intruder broke the door.

Every since that incident Goliath and any future DDB I get will never be crated again. See we had just recently adopted him from a breeder and she had said all her DDBS like the crates and that's how she trained them. We would leave the door to the crate open and Goliath would go into his crate all on his own. I vowed never again. Because I thank god everyday for him. Nobody knows what might of happened without him there.

I have been fortunate enough to never need to protecting. Although my dad was trying to move my sisters dog out of the car (Dog nicknamed the OX) who was growling and barking. Sasha ran to the 'rescue' and kicked her butt saving my dad the headache

I picked up my Fila from the airport...end of story. Everyday this dog has to "protect" me from something, lol.

Yesterday evening my EM protected us from some vicious Cardinals that were apparently trying to kill my wife and I. Lol. Sorry, that's all the protection we've needed thus far. There's a pistol within arms reach pretty much anywhere in my house so we don't have to rely on our dog for security.

Duchess my 9 month old EM believes that the UPS truck is Satan himself & has to protect me from it. It can be a FedEx truck & she's fine. The mailman? No problem. The trash truck? Not a problem anymore. The UPS truck? Ahhh hell no. She isn't having it be anywhere near me or the house. She goes nuts. I guess brown doesn't do anything for her.

I have told this story before but Ill tell it again for the sake of telling it. I was out walking my EM about a month and a half ago so he would have been about 6 months old give or take. Well anyways we were walking though a park in the city here and while we were walking Mufasa was behind me as I had him on a flexi lead. So as I am walking about 45 feet ahead of me I suddenly saw two coyotes and they saw me. The stood there, didnt advance but let out a low growl, well low for them, but not for Mufasa ;) He heard them, his ears perked up and he came whipping around in front of me and stood between me and them, head down ass up crouched and growling and ready to go. Needless to say I pulled him back and we walked the other way out of the park. As soon as I told him to leave it he instantly shut down and followed me out so I am thankful that he is as young as he is and listens as well as he does. On the way out of the park I called animal control because this park has a playground and what not and it backs onto a bunch of peoples back yards so I wanted the coyotes out thinking that having them around kids would be bad lol. Apparently I was wrong because animal control said they wont come out for that and if I saw anyone I should tell them to watch for the coyotes, like WTF. Its in the middle of town and around kids and you think leaving predators alone there is a good Idea? Idiots in my opinion but no one asked me I guess.

my english mastiff daphne was about 7 months old when i some friends come visit me who are now ex friends...when they came into my house she was going nuts barking and growling but not attacking after about 45 mins she stoped barking and growling but she sat about 6 foot from them the whole time and everytime they moved she moved and when they tried to pick my 10 month old up she stodd over my daughter with the look of i dare you to touch her she wouldnt let them get near me either i felt really bad but now knowing what i know about them i dont feel bad one bit for the reaction she had towards them because i know why now and dont blame her one bit she had also already started her fear stage so that could have tributed to what happened but all i know is she was protecting us

Well my EM is too young, light and fragile to offer much protection yet....but I do have three stories about my Siberian Husky who passed this past April. I will tell two of them. First one is I was working on the plumbing of our Hot Tub and the dog was with me...when out of no where she started pushing her butt up against me and cramming me against the wall near the hot tub. I was getting frustrated as I HATE plumbing work and the dog was about to get my temper up with this butt pushing she was doing. When I finally stood up I was greeted by a 4' rattle snake the only thing stopping me from getting bit was my dog. I had to holler for my wife and pick up the dog hand her to my wife OVER the hot tub as she would not budge and then I moved the snake to a more snake friendly environment.

Second time was when she was a younger pup maybe 2 years of age we were outside working on her obediance training (which was a constant...stubborn dog) when a guy opened his garage door and his giant Rotty ran out towards us...KeeNoo (our Siberian was on a 30' lead and immediately crouched and rolled over showing pure submission. Then the big male started growling sniffing and scratching at her when she lunged for his throat and clamped down...she did NOT let go...ended up pinning this dog that easily had 100lbs on her to the ground. Owner was mad at ME!!!! I just laughed and said my dog was on the lead and it was in our yard.

She was a great dog...minus the plethora of wildlife she killed (cats, possums, raccoons, an ENTIRE DEN of rabbits baby's and all....I sure miss her a lot.

Looking forward to new stories with my new pals.

My 15 week Corso, Leo, is very similar to Gummy's EM. Birds beware! If a branch moves wrong, it is in trouble and so on.

My chocolate lab, who is now no longer with us confronted a few coyote's a last year. The incident started with my teenage daughter telling us that she was seeing wolves in the morning on the way to the bus. I figured it was one of our neighbors Shepard. A few days later my younger daughters were out on our playground with our lab, and I heard our lab going nuts. I came out to see what was going on, as I got closer to him he moved further up our slight incline. At the top of the small rise stood what looked to be a perfectly groomed golden retriever orange colored dog. My lab was about 85 pounds and solid, and this dog was about the same size. It stood and just walked off like we did not even exist.

The next day my son told us that he had seen the mother and father along with a litter of pup's behind our house. And the father was grey (the wolf my daughter had spoke about) and he was a good bit bigger than the female. Luckily there was never a confrontation, but I am so happy my lab was there that day. I know we have quite a few rabbits near our house, and many of the neighbors cats that would piss in my planter beds, are not around any more. The coyotes were looking for an easy meal, and judging by there healthy look fed well in my area, but my lab did more than his breed was ever intended to do.

Now that he is gone, we wanted to up our level of protection, and Cane Corso fit what I needed perfectly.

So far there hasn't been any need for protection (luckily), but when I'm on the porch and Kujo is sitting with me (which is every time I'm on the porch) and my bf comes home, he will bark and growl at him until he smells him, then he's all tail wagging and body shaking excited to see him. He is very eager to get in between me and whoever is coming to visit...not in an aggressive manner, just protective. I'm secretly excited for people to start being wary of him, instead of mindlessly coming up and petting a cute puppy :) I don't want him to scare people, but I think he will anyway because of his size...little do they know what a gentle giant he'll be.

chuckorlando...hahahahahahahahahahaha!

Titan pretty much protects at all times. He doesn't like men especially black men. He likes women and kids but I have to introduce them on neutral ground. He goes ballistic if a man approaches me. I will tell the man to stop and do not look or talk to Titan. Of course, there are some idiots who keep walking towards me staring at Titan. Thank God I can get Titan's attention and tell him it's ok.

I rely in Titan's sense of danger. I will not tell him it's ok until I see his reaction. I do carry a gun, so if anything gets out of hand, I will shoot.

This isn't exactly a protecting story but I have problems with my brother coming up stairs to take my car keys or the "family" credit card while I am sleeping. Up until a few weeks ago Roly wouldn't make any noise when my brother came up stairs but now that my brother came back from college Roly barks when ever he hears any one near the stairwell. One of my brother's friends was taking at the base of the stairs and Roly wouldn't stop barking until I called him. Anytime anyone comes upstairs now Roly barks and stares at the door until I call him to me, it's startling when he does it when I'm sleeping but I would rather have him do that then have my stuff taken. It's also nice that my brother's friend know not to go on the second floor, he has a lot of people coming in and out of the house and I like knowing Roly will alert me to "trespassers".

My first proud protection story was just last week. We were out in the front yard and the cows had wandered toward the front fence line. Hank was wandering around and caught sight of them he started his deep barking and growling before bolting to me and sitting at Auf Passen between my legs watching my back and growling. I was so proud. Even if the cows were no threat at all.
A week later we were at a park and normally he likes everyone but these two shady looking guys were walking toward us. He went rigged and growled a grow that I have never heard from him before. I had to force him to keep moving. He was watching those guys like a fighter.

My sweet Lolly is 18 weeks and still hasn't started protecting yet. She did give one low bark a few days ago when my husband walked into the door. We walk everyday and there is a creepy guy that lives down the street that we pass who just stands there and stares as we go by and she still acts like she wants to meet him with all wags. At what age do they usually start to become protective?
