The dumbest statement/question I keep getting

So Daisy has been growing really quickly and we have been taking her out a lot for as much socialization as we can give her. She goes twice a day to pick up the kids from school, to PetSmart, to the park, just for walks through town, having people over, going to meet two children in a wheelchair each day and so on so she has a nice blend of socialization as we find she is a bit timid. She also starts puppy socialization classes this week (they were closed due to the holidays before now). Anyway, since we are out so much, we often get many comments about her and while I am usually happy to answer the questions, there is one question that seems to drive me up the wall. In it's less annoying comment state it is, "Oh, look at those paws, he's going to be a big boy." Well, no, she isn't going to be a boy at any time. In it's really annoying state I get...

"Wow, do you know that she's going to be a big dog?"

Ummm...I did choose the breed so I guess I did. They only seem to ask me that question, never my husband and he is waiting for it because he wants to say, "Really?! The breeder told me they were chihuahua puppies!"

Do you get comments or questions that just drive you nuts?

Last night, I took her in to visit the hockey team and another parent had their 17 week old Shih Tzu puppy in as well. When she saw Daisy she clung to her puppy and said, "Oh, I can't put her down to meet your dog." When I asked her why not, she said, "Because I know all about those breeds and how they eat small dogs." I didn't say anything because at that moment, my son (who is 7 btw) leaned over and said, "But mom, I thought it was those little breeds that were the aggressive ones." Still, I found it a little annoying. Big dog does not mean slavering monster.

Anyway, I could go on but thought I would ask about the annoying questions and comments you get.

I think people are just trying to start a conversation. Except for the last idiot. Some people are just clueless.

LOL. Usually it comes at the end of the conversation, after we have been talking about her for a little while. If it was to start the conversation, I wouldn't find it annoying.

That's like people I occasionally meet that automatically think they know more than you about your dog. These "know it alls" drive me up the wall. "Oh your lab/dane has a beautiful coat!" Me: "She's an english mastiff/weimaraner actually. No lab involved". Them: "Hmmmm. I don't think so. I definitely see lab in her". Me (resisting strangling them) "Ok then. Buh bye Genius". I don't even bother telling them I saw both parents on site and not a lab to be found.

Love when people tell me, she sleeps too much and she should be more active for her age... they would know because they own labs. Or oh poor thing is she sick,. I just tell them she is busy growing. But the truth is, she is not sick, she is just very well mannered and spends work hours sleeping so she and my boxer/dane have the energy to rearrange my funiture from 3pm to about 8pm =)

I KNOW!! People are completely ignorant (hence large breed owners with an out of control dog). First of all, most people get small dogs because they are cute and they can physically control them (a. insecurity, b. selfish). The vast majority of aggressive dogs I have encountered are always small dogs, why?? because people are neurotic so their dogs, guess what? are NEUROTIC TOO! Such a shame that people don't actually look into this problem and try to correct it. No, instead they try to ban large dog breeds from the neighborhood, city, state, etc.. because they are "dangerous and aggressive". How about your ankle bitters and their insecure yapping ALL THE TIME!!??
Anyway...

Kudos to you for refraining for outright slapping the woman who was so ignorant.

Keep socializing and know that your dog will be more stable, loved, and loyal because of it.

I second the little dog problem. My sister has a teacup chihuahua, and it's a friggen nightmare. She coddles it and doesn't let him walk anywhere. So he is 100% sure he is king and is a complete little sh**.

LOL, sounds like Daisy. When she sleeps, she really sleeps. The kids will walk up to her all concerned and ask, "Is she dead?" That is cute but not what you were describing.

I have half a mind to put up a sign in the waiting area at work:
This is an English Mastiff female, DOB is 7/3/10 on average she gains two to three lbs a week or more so she sleep ALOT, Yes she is going to be a big girl, If you hear her drinking her water PLEASE do not call her over to you until you see I have wiped her mouth... and Yes she does eat a lot!!

Lol, I once was walking with a friend and her CC, I had my 2 and some guy on the street started asking about them.
At the end of the convo he said " Those are some awesome dogs, I'll give you 600$ CASH right now for the 3 of them! I am serious, Cash now!"

Out with my 2 st bernards I get "Where's the brandy barrel?" at least once every ten minutes (curse Walt Disney!!), which can get a little irksome and with Ben the crowd favourite used to be "is that a pony?" which on its own isn't too bad, but on a five minute cycle starts to get bugging. The other one I get is "Is that her son?" which amuses me considering that Billie is only 8 months herself.

What?! You're St. Bernards didn't come with their own brandy barrel...you should call the breeder about that because I am pretty sure they're born with them aren't they. LOL. A friend of mine was always asked that with her St. Bernard as well. The first few times she chuckled, the 50 thousandth time, she just rolled her eyes and said, Wow, I never heard that before. )

I think the guy offering you money for your dogs is horrible. I have never run into that and think I would have been speechless for a few minutes.

We went to petsmart today to get cat food and had Azzy with us and this older couple stopped and asked what kind of dog she was. When I told them English Mastiff the guy held his hand out to about his neck and said "Wow, she's going to be out this big." Yea dude she'll be about 6 ft tall on all fours, that's it.

O.K. a plus, but.... because we are in a high density neighbourhood and the dogs have such unusual coloring (as well as the size) EVERYONE seems to know them. I go to walk the dogs and have people stop to talk to Stonewall by name that I have no clue who they are, and my husband has the same. It is very sweet that half the neighbourhood knows my dog(s), but most embarassing when you have no idea who they are . As for stupid comments we get the usual how much, how big, etc. but the only one that really irritates me "yeah, I love massives" Hmmm..... so much so that you know that are massives, not mastiffs. Sigh...

I get a lot of comments these days especially when I walk the two of them together, The Chihuahua X Yorkshire Terrier and Marley my English X Neapolitan Mastiff, I get so many questions, comments thrown at me........................

Is that the smaller ones dad? No they are the same age...............

They often reach out to stroke the smaller one but look fearful of Marley and I'm like please don't make me laugh the softer one is Marley your more likely to get attitude from the mini puppy.

Or the look of fear when Marley bounds over to someone to meet them or their dog as if he is going to eat their cocker spaniel etc sheesh he is 4 and a half months old and soft as anything he walks like a big clumsy puppy.

Lets see what else oh when they pick up the Chihuahua X Yorkshire terrier........Hello maybe this is just me but don't pick up my f**king dog without asking me it's this kind of baby treatment that makes a lot of these little dogs mental with attitude I treat both dogs the same even if one is the size of my hand I don't baby him or pick him up all the time he walks and plays with all the other dogs.

I of couse get the Oh what is he question and I'm English X Neapolitan Mastiff and of course that is followed by wow he is going to be big..........What??? He is??? Crap I thought both dogs would end up along the same size if only i'd known...............

I also get the name thing a lot.......oh what are they both called Hercules and Marley awwww Marley is so cute........(as they point to the Chihuahua) no thats Hercules............What the little one is called Hercules. (I always have to hold back the sarcasim at this point and not make comments about irony etc.)

On the whole I know people mean well so I tend to be polite I have in the past worked in jobs dealing with the public in customer service roles so I guess I have built up a little patience

For the first month, I got asked on a daily basis if Mason was a Pug. At around 40lbs I started getting Puggle, and now at 17 weeks and 58lbs we're transitioning to Boxer.

I get this all the time too. When I tell what kinda dog I have everyone will say to me. " Do you know how big she is going to get?" Hello! yes, I do. I wanted a big dog. And then I get, you have to be careful around kids and small animals. Really! cause I have 2 cats, a mini dashund, and 2 kids. and I lol. Some poeple they just have no clue.

We were in petsmart and a young lady said Bella was underweight and told her daughter she was a pitbull. Picked up a book to compare.LOL
