Congrats and thank you for saving not only mastiff but a senior pet!And Welcome to the board
Hi, I'm so glad I found this forum! My name is Jenn, and I've loved mastiffs for years but have never owned one. Then last week, I saw a feed of photos of adoptable dogs from our local animal shelter.....and now I am 'mom' to a 7-year-old English Mastiff named Winston!
He's got some health issues (about 30 - 40 pounds underweight, a growth on the callus on one elbow that needs to be removed, two teeth that need to be pulled, and tick fever), but behaviorally, I couldn't ask for a better pet. The only issue we're running into is the famous mastiff tail LOL I choose to take it as a sign that he's happy, since there is so much wagging going on my walls are going to develop permanent dents!
Anyway, I'm here looking for information on how to fatten him up healthfully, and anything in particular I need to know about senior mastiffs. I know we aren't likely to have him for more than a couple of years, but I'm determined to make those years good ones for him!

Wow, good on you guys for taking him on! I am glad to hear you are realistic on things and you're still detemined to help him out. He really did luck out.
Ah yes, the Mastiff tail. Your legs too will soon be dented!
As for fattening him up, there are some people here with great recipes to help you out.
So welcome to the website, share some pics and thanks for rescuing!
There are 3 kinds of people: those who can count & those who can't.
Welcome to the forum! It's good to hear that Winston has found a good home![]()
Welcome and sounds like Winston is very lucky that you have found him![]()
Jenn, welcome! Kudos for adopting a senior, that is awesome. One thing you can do is use satin balls for treats. Just google satin balls or search on this forum. Good luck and post pictures..

Congratulations Jenn! Winston maybe a "seasoned citizen", but he may surprise you with his longevity...my boy is 12
