I would get his spine x-rayed...
Hello, we are new to rescue mastiffs, and wonder if anyone has seen this. I brought home a 10 month old male that has a back that arches up. Doctors have X-rayed him and said he doesn't have Degenerative Hip Disease, however he struggles to sitdown. He won't sit due to non-flexible hip, legs, etc. He eventually circles enough to lay down. The odd thing is when he lays down he has no arch and his back lays down. He is very skinny and allows us to touch him without acting like it is a injury. I was wondering if maybe he had like a hyper-extension that would eventually heal as he gets healthy.
Vets around here don't see Mastiffs everyday so something this unique wouldn't be much help. Please advise.
Thank you,
Mark![]()

Is there a animal chiropractor that you could take him too? Our 7 month old DDB gets a bit of an arch to his back when he's been wrestling and playing hard and runs into something (tree, other dog, wall, furniture). Our holistic vet/chiropractor was able to adjust his spine and the arch went away. Until the next time he runs into something. The joys of having a big, clumsy puppy.![]()
wish i could help...not many around here either....actually desperately seeking one
I would definitely get his spine x-rayed, also you might find that chiropractic and or acupuncture might help him...it can be a little costly at first but usually you are able to back off on the frequency of visits over time...it works wonders for my girl
